Emo thread

emo is about the height of what is wrong with this world.

get a proper haircut, and get a fucking job and then you can go to fun places like kfc and not get the shit kicked out of you...

that's a little of an exaggeration, don't you think?

things like emo are simply a reaction to the utterly shit world we're leaving to our younger generations.

Life's what you make of it. If the misserable bastards cant be happy with their Playstations, plasma screen tellys, mobile phones and other things which make life easier which I never had growing up (all paid for my mummy and daddy) fuck the little shits.

So do you know them all personally too Ed to know that is what they are reacting to?

I was one of them when I was a kid. Well, a goth. From the outside, I lived in a huge house with 2 wealthy parents. For you to make the assumption you just made, which many people did against me in my day, is looking at a situation so overly simplified as to be irrelevant. Just because they have an iPod, it means their lives must be great, right?

Perhaps you're that easy to please. Many of us aren't.

Not all emos are the same, to an extent, emo is just a stereotype. A heuristic people use to categorise people based on certain characteristics so it's easier to judge people and create a prejudiced environment and make your narrow world view happier.

I'm sure not all emo's are the same but a culture that influences comfortably off teenagers to sit around being miserable and negative and thinking that suicide and self harm is good and cool is stupid and dangerous as far as I'm concerned.

perhaps there are some that find the fashion first, and then look around for reasons to be unhappy, but the main reason people drift into a social group like this is that they're lost in some way - they feel different from the majority (especially the growing chav culture) perhaps they're not happy at home, or struggling in someway. the look is just a reflection of how they're feeling inside.

Not sure if self-harm is actively encouraged...

I like people that wear their emotional torment on their sleeves. It makes for an interesting and varied life.
