What is your guilty pleasure?

we do web design, SEO, SMM and graphic design.

It's slow going, and we're looking overseas for work, but we've got some stuff in right now and the future seems a little brighter, but only because we're working for overseas companies - if we were touting for local business we'd be screwed!

well atleast you can do that and still stay where you are! Hope it works out for you anyway!

My brother sounds like Danny Dyer. Odd, considering we grew up in the same environment. I guess it's an image thing.

I know some Spanish, I'm not fluent by a long way, but I can converse and stuff. Didn't take any lessons, juts picked it up over the years. It's a beautiful language, really expressive. I like it.

Hey just because you weren't born in the UK doesn't mean you can't give an honest opinion of the place. There's a lot about Britain I do like, some of the culture, the inventiveness of it, the music, that kind of thing. But if I see something I don't like I'm not going to stay silent on the matter. It's interesting to hear how outsiders find a country, so open up, let it rip, I say. You're probably in a better position than most to give an honest opinion of the country's shortcomings.

My husband and I talk about our own likes and dislikes of the UK - we seem to have the same opinion on both sides of the coin.

Okay, here are some of my complaints:

I hate saying this, but the weather and all the frowing, grumpy faces make me feel like shit, if I'm being honest with you. And all the complaining I hear... People bitch when the sun is out and people bitch when it's raining... It's like no one is ever satisfied. I've also noticed that when it's something that can be helped / made better, etc, they'd rather bitch and moan rather than actually do something constructive about it. Sorry, it's how I feel and see things.

I hate what YOB & Chav society is doing to your culture / country on a whole.

It boggles me that your national food dish is curry rather than fish and chips... Where in the hell is the British in that dish?

I hate that you have foreigners coming into your country who are slowly but surely turning YOUR country into their own country. The way I feel is, if they can't embrace and have respect for someone else's culture then they should have stayed in their own country.

I have to concur with ed on the views of British society. There used to be more tolerance years ago but with the rise of groups like the English Defence League and such like- the sooner I can escape, the better. :)

back on topic - KFC and other junk food. I'm a sucker for KFC though...

A lot of food items that aren't 'healthy' I take pleasure in too. Varieties of cheese. Biscuits (cookie type things, rather than biscuits and gravy) too.

I'm not a big fan of fast food but I do LOVE cheese, cheese board chutney and biscuts...(we call them crackers over in the US) with a nice bottle of red.

Interesting. The weather is pretty bad in the UK, it didn't really bother me too much, but I know what you mean about the grumpy faces - eye contact is kept to a minimum, and people never seem to smile.

Yeah the chav phenomenon is terrible. Worst thing is, they're the only people having kids these days, so they're slowly turning the country into a nation of uncultured morons with a tendency toward violence and bigotry. It's really sad.

Well the curry you get in the UK is adapted to the UK palette - so it is a British dish of sorts! I love it, and I love fish and chips. I'd probably consider a sunday roast to be the national dish really. That's something the always reminds me of home.

Maybe the weather didn't bother you because you were used to it? I've been over here for almost 6 years and I still can't seem to 'get used to it'.

You're telling me. As a mother of a little girl who is being brought up with some of these troubled children is quite worrying. Unfortunately, she's been the victim of bullying already and she's only been in school since September; she's rather shy and quiet so she's an 'easy' target.
...I wish all the freebies these Chavs / YOB's get for having children wern't so easily available to them!

Ooo, yummy! I absolutely LOVE Sunday roasts.:)
...I, too, enjoy a good curry - chicken phaal is my absolute favorite but I still think your national dish should be something British.:D

quite possibly, I do like cold weather tho - before Spain I lived in Canada and NY and loved the winters in both places - so freezing :D

God I'd hate to raise kids in the UK. Spain is so superior in that sense - far less troublesome youth. The family unit is much stronger here, and as a result, you don't get kids misbehaving outrageously or being violent and abusive. Kids are pretty respectful of their elders here.

It surprises me when people in the UK complain about immigrants when the biggest drain on the country is this growing expanse of human waste known as the chav. So sad.

Mmm sunday roasts, I miss them!

Shapherd's pie would be a good national dish. Or hot pot. Or fish and chips. Bangers and mash too. I guess these would be the frontrunners.

Oh, I don't mind the cold weather - I'm from Massachusetts!:D:thumbup
...I just have an issue with the constant rain and gloomy days.

I'd love to live in a country like the one you are living in currently.
...My husband and I spoke again last evening about moving out of GB; he seems to be pushing for it alot more as of late. We seem to be agreeing on Switzerland at the moment.

Oh absolutely!. . .Bangers and mash would be ideal!:D:thumbup

so do you live in London then? London is pretty unique in it's weather because of the Thames Valley. You get very little sunshine there compared to other places in Britain, especially the south coast.

Switzerland would be awesome, I have some family there, and they have a very nice life indeed.

Nope, I live in the SW.

Your family that lives in Switzerland, are they born-citizens or did they live in the UK and move abroad?

I just want to live in a country that minds it's own business, takes pride in their country, has more sunny days than gloomy days and has a decent society...(youths and adults).

ah ok. Well I think the weather is marginally better there than london!

They're second cousins of mine. Half english half german - they moved to Switzerland because of the father's job.

Well Spain nearly fits that description other than the government here is REALLY intrusive. You know, they can access your bank accounts here and take money directly without warning you.

My lovely father-in-law lives in London; he's constantly complaining about the weather there! haha.

Yeah, we don't want to find ourselves in that situation - I'd be irate if someone had access to my bank account and took money without any expaination / warning / reason, etc.
...God, has it happend to you???

yeah it's overcast all the time pretty much. Beautiful when the sun finally does appear, but generally it's grey and dull all year round!

yes it happened to me about 3 years ago. I'd forgotten to pay some social security and forgot about it, then several months later I tried to withdraw some money and my account had been frozen. Went in to see the bank staff who told me my account had been embargoed and the govt withdrew the money owed plus a fine for being late. It left me with no money to buy food or anything. The government here is horrible, absolutely horrible.

Cripe. That will teach you not to EVER forget! lol.

I'll just stick with visiting Spain.:D:thumbup
