I was reminded this by sitting almost three hours at the local doc in a box with my daughter.
Example one: Young man alone somewhere between 18 & 24 waiting to see the doctor. His name is called for them to get a copy of his insurance paperwork. No response because he has earphones in connected to a phone or I-pod. An older woman tapped him to get his attention. He handles that sits back down and zones back out. After a while they call his name again (Cue the old lady to get his attention). This time he makes the nurse wait at the door while he disconnects himself from his aural embillical chord.
Example two: woman with a phone. Signs clearly everywhere about not using your cellphone in the waiting area. She sits and talks for 20 minutes straight like she is talking over a classroom full of rowdy first graders although it is quiet outside of the TV.
Nice to be electronically connected if you know when, where and how to use these toys.
