Teen expelled-facing criminal charges re: spitballs

You are quite right on this point. I know my school did not have out of school suspension. It was basically solitary and they gave you tons of work to keep up. So you got no break at all.

Here they did hand out 1 to 3 days suspension for more serious offenses.{rare}
Other punishments included helping the janitors after school.
Laps around the gym.
Large essay to be written.
Sit outs during PE or music.
After school detention..this got many in trouble at home that had buses to catch.
Kicking out of sports or cheer leading.

One would have a major violation to get booted for the rest of the year...such as a gun etc

Perhaps they should just have everyone whom he shot a spitball at to line up and shoot spitballs at him until he gets the message. It sucks...

...and I hate other people's spit on me. Just my own thoughts of course.

I hear you it is disgusting...perhaps a 100 page essay to be done after school on the biological matters of saliva would give him a clue...at an hour each day could take a week or so:D

Check out this link..... I found it very interesting.

good find, red lady. violent behavior has clearly been demonstrated to be handed down generation to generation by numerous researchers.

what i was seeing between the lines in the news story had me wondering about the kid's father. he's a career marine and there was no mention of the mother in the story. the kid's only fourteen and they're yakking about him going to annapolis. they're not crowing about him being an honor student, so he probably has mediocre grades and isn't really academy material at all. makes you wonder who's dream it really is and what kind of discipline he metes out to the boy.

my father is an abusive person. when he was younger he thrashed us quite a bit -- nothing severe, just plentiful. it was with extreme effort that i've been able to rein in my temper and refrain from getting physical with people who are screaming at me and threatening to beat me. it has taken even more effort to learn how not to get verbally abusive back at people who are being flagrantly disrespectful to me.

it's that reinforcement -- if everybody around you behaves in a particular way it can be difficult not to mimic them even if you know the behavior to be a bad one. i don't like being around heavy smokers because i end up smoking more than i like to.

the spitball thing is clearly an attention-getting exploit but i still maintain the whole thing is ludicrous and we're being fools dissecting the thing this way while so many other far more critical things are popping in the news around us.

how about writing 'i will not blow spitballs at my classmates' 10,000 times on the blackboard?

Thats a freaking weapon

The kid fucked up and now must live with it. He made his bed and now must lie in it. No sympathy what so ever

Using a plastic pellet and a pen casing. That can build up a lot of speed once it exits that pen. That cause a welt on a persons arm. If that hit a eye. He would be in Jail.

we did a test in school with the speed of a spitball out of a pen casing. It got as fast as 9 m/s I would bet a plastic pellet would travel faster the that with less drag in the air
