Once you get past -20C cold is cold. Dry, damp...I hate it all. The worst thing is windchill. :surrenderdry cold though
-40 in Ottawa gets right into yer bones, it is damp/humid cold, -40 in sask is easier to bear

we shut off external pipes, i have two , one in my garage and one on my back deck, each has a valve inside the house, in the basement, i close that then drain the water between theat valve and the external faucetDo lots of pipes burst up there? On the news they always say to leave your faucet running so your pipes won't explode but it never gets anywhere near that cold.
For external water lines, what porterjack said. As for pipes in buildings and such, no we do not have that problem. Bone chilling cold is expected here and as such things are designed to withstand it. Everything is well insulated. :nod:Do lots of pipes burst up there?
