So you can forget about looking for your soul mate in Pakistan, instead your parents pick out your mate like they were buying you a pair of jeans... except they get the jeans from their brothers house...

Tim, you are totally misunderstanding a culture, things are NOT as you perceive.

Love marriages are permitted but arranged marriages are normally conducted, for the reason of protecting and securing brides future! Girls here do not enjoy the same privileges as girls in the West, neither they have any
state protection in a place where even men are not safe. Then there are tribal customs which do not allow boys and girls to marry outside their clan. The situation is not as bad as it is worse in poor and tribal population...

Moreover, brides are NOT bought, rather many a girl remain unwed due to poverty which doesn't allow them
to give dowry as per their custom! I know that's bad but sometimes customary laws prevail over common laws
and in a place where there is extreme lack of rule of law and where justice cannot be found you shouldn;t expect parents to leave their daughters to dogs without first ensuring their ''pedigree''!

For your information, there is NO lack of women in Pakistan but yes, finding a real ''soul mate' is never as easy
as is in the West but luckily, regardless of mode of marriages, divorce rate here is very low comparatively!

My point was that I wouldn't want my parents deciding what jeans I should wear and I especially wouldn't want them choosing my bride for me. I would MUCH rather date different women getting to know them to see if we were a good fit.
And don't even bring up the divorce rate as it doesn't even matter in this discussion. I can assure you that if divorce was as easy to accomplish in your country that there would be a mass exodus to the local magistrate. What are the odds that both people in an arranged marriage are truly happy? You will never convince me that the majority of women in your country don't feel trapped and would leave in a heartbeat if given a real opportunity.

You can keep your dog in your yard by beating it into submission, but that wouldn't be the route I would take.

That would be due to the fact that it's also a cultural, if not legal, taboo there. Taking credit for a low divorce rate in a Muslim country is like taking credit for a lack of frostbite victims in the Sahara... the environment isn't quite optimal to make it a real threat.

you are correct but you cannot view other cultures in the light of yours. Parents here don't tell their grown up kids to wear such and such jeans but the kids surely don't want to do something that is NOT acceptable by the society, leave alone religion. People live here in the 'present', maybe you too, but they have a little or NO future!! Like the West, many people here are not even registered with the govt, how would you know who is who or whether the boy your daughter is marrying is able to maintain a family or not?? Who would be responsible if the boy turns out to be a thug or a terrorist and sells out your daughter after marriage??
Who will take care of your daughter after the break-up?? remember there is NO social security or govt help to assist the boys or the girls, it is the familial system which provides social security to them at all times!!

Dating is NOT the custom among Muslims.......especially in Muslim countries. Openly there are NO boyfriends or girlfriends and the society doesn't have respect for such association. You either marry or don't.

A woman can get a divorce in maximum 6 months and a marriage can be conducted by the court in a jiffy!!
Obviously you are quite wrongly informed on the subject.

You can keep your dog in your yard by beating it into submission, but that wouldn't be the route I would take.

that's a fallacious statement, contrary to the facts. We don't beat ''bitches', we love them and happily take as many as Four!!

Abnormal births are NOT restricted to cousin marriage, the problem sparks up when a series of marriages over a long time are conducted between cousins. For example the Parsis (Zoroastrians) never marry outside their cousins! I think that's the reason their new generation is pale and weak!

Not restricted to cousin marriage, but it's a proven fact that first cousin marriage leads to a higher infant mortality rate and a higher occurrence of congenital birth defects.

You guys can practice any type of marriage you want. Nature will select those with a more diverse gene pool. Eventually the inbreds will go the way of the Dodo bird.

I am not refuting Scientific findings but it is a fact that only first cousin marriages are not responsible for higher
infant mortality rate and higher congenital birth defects. Five of my brothers have been married outside family
yet I could see some congenital problem with on or two of their children such as one child suffers from asthma and the other from epilepsy which they acquired from their maternal genes as no one in my family ever suffered from such illnesses.

I don't thin you or I would be alive until the time inbreds become dodo's or until God is there!!:)
