(CNN) -- Arkansas game officials hope testing scheduled to begin Monday will solve the mystery of why more than 1,000 blackbirds fell from the sky just before midnight New Year's Eve.

The birds -- most of which were dead -- were found within a one-mile area of Beebe, about 40 miles northeast of Little Rock, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission said.

Karen Rowe, an ornithologist for the commission, said the incident is not that unusual and is often caused by a lightning strike or high-altitude hail.

A strong storm system moved through the state earlier in the day Friday.

Officials also speculated that fireworks shot by New Year's revelers in the area might have caused severe stress in the birds.

"Since it only involved a flock of blackbirds and only involved them falling out of the sky, it is unlikely they were poisoned, but a necropsy is the only way to determine if the birds died from trauma or toxin," Rowe said.

The dead birds will be sent for testing to labs at the Arkansas Livestock and Poultry Commission and the National Wildlife Health Center in Wisconsin.

That one you all can't blame my cat Boop on, but she does keep bringing live birds thru the cat door, sometimes they live, mostly they don't. You can imagine the fun Joe and I have when there is a live bird running around ducking under furniture and such like as our four cats and two dogs run around! I know it's a "gift" bringing us a bird but really, I prefer gift cards ;)
 
Along with that, over 5,000 fish have washed up to different coasts around the world...

The thing many of us are wondering, "Maybe this could be true, the 2012 end of the world thing..."

In all that I've seen, it said worldwide on my TV when talking about the 1000 birds falling & fish floating up to the shores (exactly on New Year's Day)...

My personal opinion on this, is that... "If the world is coming to an end... where do we go from here?"


Like, if it is TRUE, and not a load of BS, then what should we do now but wait to die?

Oh yep, I hear ya man... sounds like a plan!
When the time does come, I'll try to find all of my friends and associates and send them tons of liquor for the end of the world party... =) =( Still sucks that some if not most of us will have been unable to do what we wanted before hand... ya know?

yeah, they supposedly used haarp to intensify and steer hurricane katrina.

so now they're shooting at flocks of birds? you know there was another mysterious kill reported from louisiana?
 
Everyone is missing the obvious here.

We are talking about Arkansas here where there are more rednecks per capita than any other place in the US. We all know they love there guns. This happened just a few seconds after midnight... you know they were all outside shooting their guns in the air. Hell, I can't believe it was only a thousand birds that were shot down.
