Well Known
.... my little 50 year old sister.

She's a single mother with 2 kids, worked two jobs while going to school in order to land a coveted job with the Federal Gov't. She has been driving a wreck of an old van which broke down again on her way home from work. She had been planning to buy a newer vehicle for the last year but things weren't quite there. A few days ago she told me she was ready to buy and would I come with her on Saturday morning. She has never purchased a new car and didn't plan on it today but after I talked some sense into her, showed her some numbers, gave her the pro's and cons and made her understand it's the best thing she agreed... but only because she will drive it for the next 10 years if not more. She had her sights set on a Kia Soul and I convinced her to consider the Hyundai Tucson as well.

We went and looked at the Soul first. She drove it and was excited but cooled her jets after I pointed out a pile more negatives than positives. Off to the Hyundai dealership we go. I've purchased two new cars from them in the past year and know the salesmanager. That along with my experience in selling cars we were able to get her what she really wanted at a driveaway price of $425.00 over cost which is a hell of a discount. I saved her a ton of dough today but the best thing is it's all hers.... paid cash and I'm so proud of her.

This is what she bought but in " Blue Ice. " I couldn't find a pic of that color but this will give you an idea.

nice car.

After we did the deal she was so excited I thought she was gunna piddle on the floor. I had to get her to put her bloody cell away cuz she wouldn't stop calling people. She needed time to write the cheque and take a breath once in a while.

I had so much fun bartering with the sales manager I almost took him up on his standing offer to come and sell for him. I love the feeling and high I get from closing a deal.

Very nice! I really wanted to get a Tuscon when I bought my Optima, and I'm kinda regretting not saving up a while longer in order to get one. Any Hyundai/Kia vehicle now days is going to be a really reliable choice. What were the negatives on the Soul? Other than the fact that it's a new model, and smaller.

Comfort, fit and finish, options and accessories were acceptable considering the price and that's about the best positive I could say.

What I noticed right off the bat is the rear storage area. It looks big from the outside but the actual access hole into it is quite small because of the way the pillars are built and placed. The rear lights also take up a lot of space that could have been used to make it bigger. The rear seats are placed quite far back as well and unless they are folded flat there isn't a lot of room to haul stuff never mind having two teenagers in the car.

There wasn't a lot of noise coming from the front end when you drove but there seemed to be quite a bit of it coming from the rear. It reminded me of sticking your head in a barrel while the wind was blowing around it. Not that bad though but it was noticeable. We didn't take it for a run on the highway so I imagine it would be quite a bit louder at 60 or 70 mph.

It only has a 2.0 L engine which imo is too small for a vehicle of that size and weight. It didn't have a lot of get-up and considering we live in very hilly terrain I would be over-rating it if I said it was even marginal. As a zip around the city I suppose it would be ok.

Another negative retro is the rear wheels are placed very far back and that seemed to make for a bit of a choppy ride. When we went over some railway tracks at about 35 mph the back end hopped around a quite bit. That concerned me even though the vehicle has stability control. I like a vehicle that sticks to the ground regardless of what the back end weight is.

Can I get you to negotiate for me the next time I have to buy a vehicle? I suck at such things. :(

looks like a nice car, that was such a nice thing of her big bro to do for her :)
I've always had a real soft spot for her cuz she always seems to get the raw end of the deal. She as well as my other siblings know she's my favorite and I like to see her get a break. Over the years Mrs.Guyzerr and myself have helped her out a lot. Sometimes she has a hard time accepting it but I make sure she understands she owes us nothing.
