Detroit Police said a 67-year-old customer of a Burger King was punched and died in an altercation with an employee at the east side fast-food place.

Police said it wasn’t clear what caused a verbal argument between the customer and the worker, a 20-year-old, around 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the burger joint on the 2100 block of Gratiot Avenue.

But the employee punched the man, “and he fell to the ground,” said Sgt. Eren Stephens, a spokeswoman for the Detroit Police Department. “We’re now waiting on the medical examiner’s report to determine the cause of death. The 20-year-old has been taken into custody.”

The punch may have led the victim to choke on his dentures, police told WJBK-TV (Channel 2). A Burger King spokeswoman told the station that the franchise owner was cooperating with investigators.

I don't like this title...it's not factually correct. The old man was being disorderly, causing a problem, and swinging on employees. This employee punched him once, he went down hitting his head on the way, and then died. Further reports have advised that he did NOT choke on his dentures. It's a shame for someone to get a murder rap out of a situation like this, but it happens.

That was what I was wondering, it's too quick to judge without all the facts. Surely he would only get done for involuntary manslaughter and not murder for something like that???

It's not really involuntary when you're intentionally striking someone, sure he didn't intend on killing him but he definitely intended to cause him harm. Again I am asking where Natasha heard that the old man swung on the employee?

It is involuntary if you dont intend to kill them and are merely protecting yourself or others.

That's the thing, I've read multiple articles on this and not one of them made any mention of the old man throwing any punches, according to everything I read it was a verbal dispute and the employee assaulted the customer, not the other way around.

Michigan Man's Death at Burger King Ruled a Homicide

Published December 10, 2010

DETROIT -- The death of a 67-year-old Detroit Burger King customer who police say fell and later died after being punched by a 20-year-old employee has been ruled a homicide.
Wayne County medical examiner's office spokesman Dennis Niemiec says an autopsy conducted Friday determined that Paul Cannon died from blunt force trauma to the head.
Niemiec says the man's dentures were "not an issue" in the death. An earlier report said the punch may have caused the older man to choke on his dentures.
Police say Cannon was reportedly causing a disturbance Thursday afternoon at the restaurant on the city's east side and tried to hit the worker, who swung back.
The worker was in police custody Friday.
