Local TV station is doing a special thing outside Walmart taking donations of gifts & food & clothes for the needy. They just posted on facebook that they have received a lot of bicycle donations this year. Then they complained no one is donating safety equipment like bicycle helmets.

I have never worn a bicycle helmet. If I ever take it up as a weekend avocation where you peddle for miles I might consider purchasing one.

It may be a requirement if you ride on the street or busy roads. I know it is required but unenforced on college campuses.

I purchased them for my kids when they were little. Neither ever used them once they became proficient bike riders.
 
When I was a kid it was more dangerous to wear a helmet on your bike as you would be garunteed a kick in from other kids for it. My mum always made me wear one so I just hid it in the bushes round the corner till I got back home.
 
I had a helmet and pads when I was learning to ride a bike, thank goodness. I was clumsy. I'm all scarred up from learning. Also wore them when I roller bladed. Loads of scars from that too. Apparently they didn't do me much good. And I never did hit my head.
