Surgery, Anyone?

So, tomorrow, on December 3rd, I'll be offering up my gall bladder. :ninja The damn thing has been pissed off for almost 2 months, so, bye-bye to it.

How many of you have had surgery and what does your head do to you while you're waiting for the inevitable comatose state induced by the anesthesiologist? Personally, I'm poopin' purple twinkies over being knocked out. :willy_nilly:

My last trip to lala land was for a heart procedure where they were checking for blockages. I just relaxed and went with the flow. I have had tonsils & appendix removed but the worst part was soreness afterward.

How do you just "relax and go with the flow"? :ninja

I'm really hyper sensitive to medications... in other words... a little bit goes a lonnnnnng way with me. Damned anesthesiologist better know his stuff, 'cuz I wanna wake up. :surrender

You'll be fine... The hardest part is getting the IV for the meds.

Anesthesiologists are very good at what they do, they are constantly checking you and giving you just enough to barely keep you under. The meds they give you need to be constantly administered via the IV, so it's not like they just give one dose to last the entire operation. So don't worry about not waking up, you'll be perfectly fine.

Good luck GDW!! I don't have much in the way of words of comfort, except that it's over before you know it and you wonder why you spent all the time beforehand worrying. Sometimes the recovery can be unplesant but even that is minimized with today's proceedures.

Having said that, I'm scheduled for my surgery in January. I feel brave now, but I gaurandamtee you, I'll be wimpering like a little weenie the night before. :D

Again, good luck and godspeed.

Thanks, Tim. :)

Now, if I can just get that through my head... ;)

Ooooh how that cracked me up! :24: I'm so glad to hear that I'm not the only weenie in this world! :p

I had my gall bladder removed a little over 2 years ago - was my first surgery and hopefully the last one too.

I don't remember being too nervous about it, but I had my "freak out moments".

Before the surgery my gall bladder had been acting up for a month or two, at night I couldn't sleep, stand, sit, or lay still it hurt so much. I was shaking from the pain and nothing, no pain medicine would help.
So I was actually looking forward to be pain free. My mom had gone through the same thing before me so I was familiar how it would go.

The day after the surgery was bad - I was so tired I was shaking all over and the first time I tried to eat a couple spoons full off soup I nearly screamed from the pain. The gas that they pump into your stomach so they can better see what they are doing pushed my insides way up and the the soup, as it traveled though me, had to straighten it all out.

Your surgery will be done with laparoscopy, right?

Anyway, good luck. *hugs* it'll be over before you know it and after you will be pain free and it will be great. :)

When God is ready for me to kick the doors off the hinges it will be my time. Otherwise, I will worry about the little things I have control of and not worry over those I can't. Besides they gave me a couple of pills to relax me even before the good stuff.:D

I have only had surgery once... and at that point I just wanted it to be all over(C-section for Liam).. I didn't freak too much... I just keep feeling like I was going to throw up.. I was kept awake during mine..

Good luck girlie! You will do fine.
