So today many countries will get to biggest release of what is being called the most damaging information of WikiLeak documents.

Had the release of these types of documents happened a long time ago, we would not have governments go in to panic mode when this happens.

Have we really been given proper information in the past, or kept in the dark.

How much does this give of the truth and how much is being hidden ?

before this gets out of hand, as i am sure it will francis, i'm 56 years old and i've been through this shit since the kennedy assassination.

the murderous pimps who did that are not all dead yet and a lot of their children and grandchildren are carrying on what their ancestors have been doing to the rest of us for as much as 2000 years according to some historians.

as a rule, what we are told and what is really going on are most often nowhere near the same thing.

they went berserk over daniel ellsberg and the pentagon papers about vietnam and they're going berserk over julian assinage.

there may be those who cry treason. i say bravo!

The whole thing is bullshit. Putting this information out in the open like this endangers people's lives. There is a reason it is confidential.

While those words were often spoken here, now that we have a much more open and transparent process that our present Government, want to close that loop on it only have disclosed the dishonesty in Government / Diplomacy..

How many people will die is not what we should ask, but rather, how many have died, that we have no idea about but should..

It's not the "bad people" I worry about but rather those that are hidden if the name of "National Security" when we all know it was only a cover up..

If we are as strong as we claim we are, no one is really in danger, and if we are, the danger is already real and present that no document will ever disclose.

The only ones blowing out of hand are those who have us to fear, the Voter..

i think in general the information in these releases are internal govt messages about opinions expressed by state dept officials about the performance fo other freindly govt officials. As such no one is in danger, no one will get killed, but if these releases are true - they reinforce my opinion of most govts and bureaucrats as being self serving, smug, coniving bastards

nothin' general about it, pj.

they disclosed some 250,000 state department cables.

That's not true... State Department contact names are disclosed in some of the cables.

Some of these documents on that site have information about where troops are overseas, about what their current plans of action are, about what weapons they have available to them, when they plan to move units and where to. Explain to me how the rest of the country benefits from that knowledge and that does NOT endanger their lives?

What these people are doing by posting this information is WRONG and they should be punished severely for it!

on reflection, i have to partially agree with hotty and the others about that publishing documents that do not reveal any wrongdoing about anybody only put into the public eye what reasonably should not be there.

if there are documents that expose war crimes, show them. if there is no crime that they tell about, there seems to be a very good reason for them to stay classified.

the sheer volume this assinage guy is publishing is irresponsible and it is putting lives at risk,

julian, if your intelligence people are reading this, if you have specific charges to lay, lay them. this scattergunning is extremely dangerous and irresponsible journalism.

But again, such information is critical and the Government has many ways to disguise it..

War has been in mankinds blood since the day man learned how to use a weapon..

Any document made should be expected to be seen by eyes that should not see it.. Following the same basic rules we have talked about on this board about "if you don't want someone to know something, don't post it" the same can be said about documents.

Do you think we would not clamour at such information if it was released from the opposite side.

I by far do not think this is funny and certainly hope it does not put anyone life in danger, hence why I believe in a more transparent process should exist. The mess would not exist today would we have followed such a process.

Seems it might already have put someones life in danger..

That's the thing though- our country employs thousands and thousands of people to maintain the integrity of that data. There are people who spend their lives fighting keep prying eyes away from sensitive material.

and THAT in itself is so sad and wrong....what a stupid reason to fight, and what a waste of money.

Now the "Big Brother" tactics are coming back to bite them in the arse and they're pissin in their pants.

By all means, protect any "innocent" parties, but are there many?

he's just working the press. when daniel ellsberg published the pentagon papers, there was a pile at the top that clearly the public deserved to know about, national security perceived by the military be damned.

in the first release, there was a smattering of moderately serious war crimes documented, but most of it seemed to be stuff that really should not be exposed.

beyond a gob of state department cables, what's really there? is anything in there truly in the public's need to know so that people can be prosecuted for wrongdoing or is this just some slug doing it because he can?
