Something I've noticed since moving here

I've lived here in New York for a couple months now, and one thing I've noticed is that New Yorkers just can NOT grasp the concept of using an "inside voice", they are SO DAMN loud all the time for no reason whatsoever, it was especially bad today, I went to my step-uncle's house for Thanksgiving, and there were 17 people there all trying to yell over eachother for like 5 hours straight, it was maddening.

My experience as a New Yorker was that yeah they are a little louder than where your from. :unsure: 1 of the reasons I left NY was it was just too loud and crazy for me. Just too many people for my taste! :willy_nilly:

That would drive me insane too, I hate too much noise, especially when it is loud. I already have hearing problems lol.

Don't get me wrong. There's some people who just Love the hustle and bustle of the New York way of life. The fast paced excitement.

True... It's more country right? I have a friend who lives on a farm in Upstate NY but she never mentioned it being noisy up there. :unsure:

Yeah, it's not like a Big city, it's a small place that's not very busy at all, the people just YELL when they talk, no matter where they are.

It's not that the place is super busy and noisy, it's that the people just seem to be incapable of speaking in a normal tone of voice.

i spend a lot of time in the gouverneur, ogdensburg, edwards area - very rural, very redneck, very loud, very proud

i love the people there

I didn't care for any of the people I was forced to hang out with today, there were 17 people in a small house, 15 of which were chain smoking the entire time, around small children, and one of them was like 8 months pregnant and still chain smoking.

I've been told by non-New Yorkers, the same thing. Although I live upstate, one of the first things they say is "Why do you New Yorkers talk so weird and so loud?"

The thing is, I live about two hours away from NYC, in the Catskills/Mid Hudson Valley so my area is more oriented around the city and doesn't really reflect upstate NY as much. Once you get north of Albany, the people are redneckish, and once you get west of Albany, it's like the Mid- West.
