black friday

Whenever I think of black Friday I always think about that trampling thing that happened a few years back.

Well that and this:

Let me see.... Friday I'll be there at 7am. Saturday I get the pleasure of being there at 6am. Shopping? Heck no, working. FunFreakingFun eh? My punishment for asking for Thursday off. Getting to check out all the dweebs dying to spend their hard-earned cash on crap made in China....

I've only done BlackFriday once. About 10 years ago. That was the day after Christmas. My BigSis was in town & dragged my ass out. I must say I got some good deals at Target. I got a roaster pan w/rack that I use the heck out of for $7. I also got boxes of purple glass ornaments (which I still have) for like .10 cents and two tablecloths (1 red, 1 gold) for about $2. each. But even those great deals are not enough to make me come out and deal w/those crowds ever again.

I just get to take their money this time. Hopefully, they're all full of HolidayCheer instead of Grinchyness.

is it weird that i have NO DESIRE to stand in line or even get to a store at 3am to get some awesome deals?
yes and you should be grateful and proud not to be one of those mentally conditioned 'normal' people only paying three times wholesale instead of six.

anybody who shops at those big chain stores at any time of year thinking they're getting anything but exploited is a moron.

that $50 item that's $60 everywhere else can sometimes be found for as little as $10 if you know where to look depending on the item

I remember doing third shift @ Toys R Us. We would unload the trailer (filled to the gills) and then distribute the pallets throughout the store. Thanksgiving night we worked from 10pm-5am getting the store nice and pretty for the crush of people. I do not regret working, the time flew away and the pay was rather decent. I remember one week I cleared $1200....thought that was something else. Once the season was over and we would get one shipment per week (unlike the three/four per week) and my salary was cut as they cut the overnight stocking crew from a high of 25 to four. I remember we couldn't unload a shipment (we worked on it from 8pm-6am and there was still merchandise in the back of the trailer. Truck delivery got mixed up and he had another trailer that was looking to come in and empty. major mis-communication between stores, it seemed we unloaded another stores delivery. It was a lesson in patience and crazy sleeping times....that was eight years ago.....

i hope y'all'll forgive me if this gets too verbose. i make my living with art. i sing, i dance, i clown, i play horns, people are very, very kind to me. many less affluent people apologize that they don't have more to give me.

tomorrow i will be playing my 8th consecutive thanksgiving concert on the median at the intersection of TX 71 and FM 973 just east of austin. the people will give me more food than my friends and i can eat. at the height of the christmas season, i earn as much as $50/hour. even when cash flow is poor, the audience response that i get has me overawed and filled with the joy of being blessed with the ability to let music spirits flow through me and make people smile, laugh, sing and dance. without the money and gifts, that alone is worth a million dollars a minute to me.

i tell my audience and you, too: make sure your kids know how to play music and they will never go hungry. they probably will never get rich from the music, but no god-loving community will let a dedicated musician starve. there will always be someone to buy their handcrafts too.

i had to learn that the hard way when i got locked out of government and corporate service due to discrimination and blacklisting for my politics. i'm sorry, they whacked kennedy and i stress the they and i won't get off that position. i also will not use the innate talents for learning and motor skills i was blessed with to do things that are harmful to the planet and deadly to people. so i had to find ways to earn money when i was denied employment.

i have some regrets that i haven't been able to fulfill some dreams, but i'm not dead yet and i'm still in good health. in many ways, because nobody outside my family and friend's small businesses would employ me, my career and life path have been a lot more, i don't know how to put it, maybe liberated? definitely living among free and talented people rather than grumpy wage slaves and jackbooted thugs.

wishing everyone a blessed, healthy and prosperous holiday season and humbly begging of the almighty that if its holy self is not ready to end war on our world, that the blessed one will not allow any new ones to break out in the coming days.

happy day

peace

News from the front... wow... being a black friday doorbuster virgin... I was a little amazed at how rude people can be! I wasn't here for the really limited items... thankfully. I managed to be polite and still get almost everything pn my list. Now I just need to pay, head to target, wait and pray!
