Congressman says God will save us from climate change

A Republican congressman who believes that global warming is not a threat because God has promised not to destroy the Earth has put himself forward as chairman of a powerful committee that deals with energy policy and its effect on the environment.

I feel so much safer now, don't you? Sigh! Where do these people come from? And he wants to be Chairman of that committee. :eek

True but I do think the green movement is getting out of hand. We need to stop growing corn for ethanol, let recycling take care of itself and stop making ridiculously expensive electric cars. Instead we should stop wasting energy. We need better public transportation (maybe even bring back electric trolleys), bullet trains, turn off unused lights, etc.

Edit: Oh, and for god's sake, build some more nuclear power plants.

i will admit that mankind has not made the situation any better and has added to problem...but climate change is cyclical, it cannot be blamed entirely on mankind as it is a naturally occurring phenomenon which takes place over hundreds and in some instances thousands of years.. what is happening or will happen or what is considered natural cannot be measured or determined due to the fact that there are to many other variables besides man that change the planets climate over time ...and that is fact.

Ethanol is a huge waste of time. No one ever mentions how much oil it takes to harvest and transport the stuff. Plus it's been calculated that to equal the US's daily oil consumption, the entire of the US would need to be used to farm the stuff.

We could have all the energy we need so easily if it wasn't left up to business. Solar power is the way to go. The entire planet can be powered for 1 year on the amount of sunlight that hits the Earth in 1 hour. More here:

Nuclear is ok, but again, this is quite a hazardous way to generate energy. The waste is a real problem.

you guys are forgetting that the real problem, which is the fact that there are too many people

We haven't reached the carry capacity of the Earth yet. Not to mention that population growth is slowing down and is predicted to peak at 11billion. We just suck at resource management because we leave it in the hands of the wealthy or to a malfunctioning "marketplace" to decide who gets what and what it is that they get.
