The rose is beautiful. :thumbup I like the picture but the flower itself is slightly out of focus. You also might want to try getting a little closer so the rose fills most of the frame or maybe change the angle of the shot. The plant on the ground behind it is a little distracting. :)

The underside of a bridge. It was an interesting view when I was standing there but I'm not sure I like the photo that much. Thoughts?
Actually this is a super artistic piece, I really like it. It's got an "astral door" kinda feel to it, while being kinda "comfortingly dismal" looking... like you're in your nice warm room, looking out the window at THIS. I like it.

I agree, but I think the plant is VERY distracting...it was the first thing I noticed.

I like it. I just feel like I am getting pulled forward... not a fault with the picture.. it just seems like it has an inner momentum.

zirc i think your pic is awesome, but maybe up the contrast in photoshop or something?

and as if this is the only thread where critiques are going to be criticized

there is a HUGE difference between art photography and documentary photography.

I think it's a good idea in principle but perhaps if people do want critique or don't mind it, they could just mention it in the thread pictures they post.

For the record, I don't mind critique in any pictures I post unless I specifically say I don't want critique on a particular picture.

I think the thread was started due to a couple of conversations I had with Tuffy. It's always been my stand that one doesn't critique someones shot without the poster asking for it.

As for myself I don't want no stinkin' critique. It would just make me pout all day. :D

but knowing that you need to change things makes you a better photographer. it just highlights things that you can be aware of in future.

I know what the purpose of a critique is but I still would consider it rude for anyone to critique a photo uninvited. As far as my second line goes it t'was but a joke... a stinkin' joke.

On second thought a critique is just another persons view and they could be wrong. It would suck to change for the worse.

This isn't a tell some one their pic is shite thread. It's supposed to be helpful. I don't like the word critique. its implies a negative. but It really shouldn't be if it is constructive. IE. whoever posted the pic of the flower got some good feedback on it. If he goes back and takes the shot again baring everything in mind, the shot will be 100x better. Even if all that happens is in future they are more aware of their background, they have learned form the experience.

the point of it being on the board and not to one person is that we are supposed to debate what makes it good and what takes away from it. Its not just one persons opinion. Its a majority saying i think this would look better. Whats the worst that will happen anyway? they may go back and take another shot and it doesn't work. This too is a learning experience.
