NHL 2010-11 Thread

a dissapointing year

clouston takes the fall, i think murray must have some incriminating photos of eugene melnyk, imho he should have been fired a year ago, and he gets a 3 year extenstion

good luck in the playoffs pj, habs versus bruins could be a doozy

sorry flames fizzled zirc
am not taking the Habs lightly (they did win the season series 4-2) but Price has played 70 games this year, he maybe fatigued....

Which part of the season are you talking about? The first half or the last bit of March? If the Flames only feel like playing for a couple of months out of the season then they don't deserve to to make the playoffs. They've had a half-assed attitude for the last number of years and it's really starting to piss me off. :mad

(Angry zirc is angry. :ninja)

The Glendale City Council voted 5-2 to enter into an agreement to keep the Coyotes for the 2011-2012 season. Looks like if Winnipeg is gonna get a team for next year, it's not gonna be my Yotes.

:woohoo:

They just need to move the Thrashers... that'll end this talk of moving the Coyotes. ;)

I wonder how much Bettman paid them for that vote. :p This is all about his pride, you know. I doubt the Thrashers will go anywhere either. And if they do move, it will be to another city that knows nothing about hockey. London, England, maybe.

Cool as I was always in favor of teams staying where they were as long as they were financially stable and self sufficient which Phoenix still is not.. :thumbdown

So you personally gonna fork over the missing 11 million for this last season and probably as much if not more if you account for higher salaries ? :D

Glendale this week paid the NHL $25 million towards losses that are estimated to top $36 million this season.

God, you really enjoy being an asshole about this, don't you?

The team hasn't been financially stable because of the idiot ex-owner that used the team as nothing more than a tax writeoff. Now that we've got a good GM and coach in place, the fans are coming in... but it's a little slow. Kinda like the Rays in Tampa Bay, they were abysmal for so long, that even their World Series run is only making their fan base slowly increase.

no need to get pissed Retro

There is a legitimate point about Glendale doing this. They basically are fronting money for the future owner as I see it. Because without that money the future owner could not afford it. And I heard Glendale was gonna have to fork out over 100 million. Not just 25 million. If they can even reach a deal.

So all this did was buy the city time.

Of all people Retro I would think you would find this is a piss poor allocation of tax money.

Got nothing to do with fans losing a team but tax money and how it is spent. Subsidizing a sports league and a future owner like this is not good. but if Glendale can afford it and the people don't care that is their choice.

The City of Glendale will vote Tuesday whether to ante up another $25 million to ensure the Phoenix Coyotes remain in town for at least another year.

The City of Glendale released its council agenda Friday and multiple sources confirmed to ESPN.com the city is looking at replicating an arrangement that cost $25 million this season to help cover operating costs while the NHL finds an owner for the franchise for next season.

The proposal is expected to pass -- one source told ESPN.com Friday it would be a "no-brainer" for the city -- and could take some of the pressure off of the municipality to sell more than $100 million in bonds that are crucial to closing a deal with Chicago businessman Matthew Hulsizer.
