I'm serious! Owen buggered off to Real Madrid looking for glory and we won the Champions League with a new manager. Torres buggers off to Chelsea for glory, we win the league with a new manager albeit 18 months later.

If Liverpool win the League in 18 months I will give up my mod position, my subscription to The BOARD~, sign off from here, give up and never come back.

As you can see I'm confident.

DEEP down I don't, but stranger things have happened. England 5-1 Germany, Greece in 2004, Istanbul 2005, United 1-4 Liverpool and Spurs running Inter Milan ravage!

In truth I just think the gap is too much. I mean this season Liverpool won't make the Champions League, they may not even make the Europa League, they do have a good striker in Carroll, not £35m good, but still, good. Suarez is fine, unproven at the top level but he should do well. But the whole base for a team to challenge just isn't there, the players were sold that could have done so (Alonso, Masch...heck even Crouch, Bellamy), as well as signing poorer quality players in more recent times. As well as of course the teams up and around where Liverpool want to be doing much better and having the better teams basically. So both those reasons really.

And as for Tony Cascarino on SSN, Carroll was hardly exceptional when Newcastle came to Old Trafford, he had a couple of chances but that was about it.

I believe it was the loss of Mascherano that kinda done it for us. Alonso wanted out the season that we finished second place and with Aquilani he wasn't given much time as Rafa wanted to ease him in slowly, get used to the English game and then pull him in for the next season [This one].

I think Masch was generally unhappy, not a lot you can do with a player like that. I will say he has not acclimatised well to Spain. Alonso left because he fell out with Rafa over him perhaps being used as a makeweight in the Barry deal, and kinda felt put out by that. Aquilani was a crock from the very beginning, sure he came in later in the season and showed promise but it was never going to happen. He's on loan somewhere in deepest Italy now. I forget where.

On the transfer fees, I think both are overpriced, but Carroll moreso. He just shades £15m in my opinion. I will say he'll score goals, he's proven that already, but I also think Torres will do better at Chelsea because of the better players around him and the fact he'll be partnering Drogba. More than likely anyway. Makes you wonder though if Anelka and/or Kalou will leave in the Suimmer. I can't see A/ Anelka wanting to sit on the bench every week and B/ himself perhaps playing out of position. Kalou might just be content though thinking about it, because he rarely starts anyway, and also he can play on the wing.

Anelka I don't think able to play for France with what happened in South Africa last year

i think this is a good deal for liverpool and chelsea. liverpool need to rebuild, and chelsea need someone under the age of 30 in their team.

Breaking news: the reason why Fernando Torres' deal took so long was because he nearly failed his medical, they couldn't find his backbone.

Just proves Torreses loyalty in the end. Ah well, lets hope he does a Michael Owen and become a future flop, Liverpool win something big next season...

it proves nothing about his loyalty,he loves 2 clubs but wants to win something before he retires, and play in the champions league....his options were actually limited as to where he could go too,as he loves liverpool and athletico madrid(he used to wear an armband with 'you'll never walk alone' written on the inside when he was at athletico) it only left one or two clubs that could afford him as an option to go to,both halves of manchester were a no go,no way would he play for real madrid, and being a madrid boy barcelona wasn't an option, that just left chelsea

DEEP down I don't, but stranger things have happened. England 5-1 Germany, Greece in 2004, Istanbul 2005, United 1-4 Liverpool and Spurs running Inter Milan ravage!

did you know that santa and cheryl cole slept together?

Torres could make his Chelsea debut this Sunday against....you guessed it, Liverpool.

We play Villa at home tonight, anything other than a home win would be a shock.
