Seeing as how I don't think there are much in the way of international american football teams out there, and what there is don't compete at near the same level of the NFL, I doubt that assertion. Plus it's a logistical issue more than anything... it would be a nightmare to include international teams (other than in Canada or perhaps Mexico) in the NFL because of travel arrangements, ridiculous time zone changes, etc., etc., etc.

I like American football, but, to be honest the Europeans did call it football first, and it's a lot of fun debating (slagging) back and forth with Joe's relatives about the merits of both. Of course I like to argue.....if it's friendly-like 
do the geography.....london to new england perhaps.....then new england to miami

and its my honest belief that say for instance the monarchs were let in,within 2 seasons they'd be competing with the best because how many top players in america would love to play in europe

So in fact your bold statement that it never has been called the world championship is inaccurate. Anyway, I watched the last Superbowl and the American commentators were constantly referring to it as the world championship.

I guess I was just thinking in an American standpoint, i never heard them use it because its irrelevant for us to even think of it as a World Championship, its just the NFL and the AFC
one thing that might be of inteest is the relative growth of Soccer in the US compared to American Football in England
i.e on nay given day the US Soccer tema can give England a good competitive game, how ever i doubt a team of Englishmen could even dream of getting close to a US National Team in real football

American Football isn't really taken seriously in the UK. There are but a handful of team around the country. Brits prefer to get stuck in to a good violent game of rugby

I think most of the team sports in Britain have some kind of rule governing the percentage of foreign players.
