yes, days and days and days.

the sticks are the wicket: if the bowler manages to hit them, knocking the bale off the top, the batsman is out, or the batsman running towards them if it's mid-play. If the batsman accidentally hits them, he's also out.

you have 2 batsman in at a time, one at each end. The bowler bowls the ball, the batsman hits it, both batsman run.

ok. you say one at each end - it's like in baseball with the diamond shape right? one runs left and one runs right - like clockwise and counterclockwise??

and do they try to get to the "wicket" from which they hit the ball?

You have two teams, four umpires (when the game started in the 19th century it was 3)

One bats, the other field and bowl against the batting team

They each have 10 wickets in order to stay in (in the case of the opposing side' to get the whole team out)

There is a pre-determined amount of overs to bowl. Each Over consists of six balls in which the bowler tries their best either not to let the opponent (the batting side) either score or to get out

Batting side: Score as much by hitting the ball, made from leather, hit with a bat made from willow..(the rules apparently). If the player skies the ball, and it doesn't touch the ground beyond the boundary, that it is a SIX, if the player hits the ball, but touches the ground before going beyond the boundary, it is a FOUR (only on those two occasions does the opposing teams fan hold up a placard with either a 6 or a 4 written on it (unwritten rule)

Whoever has the most runs wins, if either sides fail to come to a conclusion a)5 days series: a draw b) one day game: they use some stranger run rate rule: think it is call the Lewis-Duckworth rule (don't quote me)
Don't know much about county cricket, but I think it is similar in some aspects

Hope you had your fun, Jane:thumbup

haha not quite.

so a "wicket" = an out or a strike?
when they hit the ball it's not supposed to fly? it's supposed to stay low to the ground?

The wickets face each other, some 22 yards apart (is that correct?) so the batsmen are just running toward and past each other, from one end to the other.

each time they get to the opposite wicket, they score a "run". They can end at any wicket they like. The bowler will bowl from the same wicket in the same "over" (there are 6 balls to an "over") before swapping ends. For example:

First Over, bowling from wicket B to wicket A. Batsman at wicket A hits the ball, falling short of the boundary (which would automatically score 4 runs, or 6 if it reached there without hitting the ground). The batsmen run, and score 3 runs before the fielders return the ball to the bowler. So the original batsman is now at wicket B. The next ball is bowled, again from wicket B to wicket A. This happens for 6 times in total, before a new bowler comes on to bowl from wicket A to wicket B.

Damn, I always thought of cricket as being a pretty simple sport, but when you have to try to explain it... sheesh...

Yeah a wicket is an out.

No, you can clonk the ball as high or as low as you see fit. If you hit it past the boundary without it touching the ground, you get a 6. If it rolls or bounces before, you get 4.

:24: the idea is to make one side of the ball slightly rougher than the other: this helps get more spin on contact with the ground.

you know trying to explain it really does make it sound over complicated and ridiculous. Watch a game though, it's actually really simple. I think. Oh I just don't know any more :willy_nilly:

2 teams of 11,one batting and one fielding, all 11 field...2 are in batting, once one goes out another goes in,6 ball an over from the same end, swapping ends each over.....a run is scored when the batsmen run from one wicket to another,or if the ball is bowled wide of the wicket,a 4 is scored if the ball crosses the boundry line but hits the floor,a 6 without bouncing,a team is out when 10 of its 11 are called out, either by bowling or being caught....unless its one of the shorter styles where a certain number of overs are played

cricket can be a very unpredictable game unless england are playing australia because we tend to beat them these days

There's a reason the only countries that play it are England and those that have to be subjugated into it. :D

A wicket is when the opposing team gets the batting person out
the batting side is suppose to get as much runs to win the innings, they can sky the ball for a six, or try tactically to stay in, referring to the 5-day series, if things are not going well..i.e. if the runs they have to get to win is insurmountable, the best they can hope for is a draw
