I've mentioned in several posts, that I volunteer at an exotic animal sanctuary. People in real life are usually pretty interested in it, so I thought you guys might be, too. Here are some pictures I've taken of some of the animals.

Lemurs. My BFFs. I love these little things!

Fennec Foxes. They're cute, but they're loud and smelly. Pretty sweet, though.

Some kangaroos. One of them has a little joey in her pouch that you can see sometimes.

Baby boas. 17 of them were born on Valentine's day.

These are just SOME of the animals we have. I LOVE it there. If you ever get the opportunity to volunteer at an animal sanctuary, DO IT. It's so fun and rewarding, even though it's filthy and I smell like a skunk afterwards.

I had to cut it down to get within the picture count, so if you want to see more, here's my Facebook link: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=23984&id=226600689&l=bcc485ef83

They do here. They "run" (hop) in packs/families. Somedays I can count at least 30 or more out in the back paddock.

They are dangerous on the highway...cause LOTS of accidents....eat crops (including "perosnal" crops);)

A few times I've had one caught in the yard...once it was a massive Wallaby.... he was taller than me...the dogs were going OFF, and he was ready to attack us.

and you live like in a town, not in a real rural country part do you?

do they box and hit like people say they do? or can you just run outside and say boogie boogie and have them run away?

:24: Its a "country" town....but still classed as a city. If you came to visit me, I could show you a whole group of kangaroos any time, any place virtually.

They do "box". but mainly each other, will rip your guts out with their huge back legs though before they will "punch" you.

and yes, they will run/hop off if you scare them, they will only attack if provoked or feel threatened, and even then, they dont really "attack"

you know what I mean!!! :p

like you can yell out your front door and have your neighbors hear you?

they sound scary! I guess not as bad as poisonous snakes and bugs you guys have. We have a small taste of that here, but very small. At least where I live. I find black widows to be pretty tame, and brown recluses usually run before they bite.

They just look so much like people that it's weird to me that you would go out at night to take your garbage out, and BOOM! a kangaroo is staring at you in the face! :24:

do they make noises? do they eat your trash? will they break into your house?

I am fascinated. can you tell? ;)

I have neighbours, but I back on to a huge paddock, so see roos out there all the time. I DO see them hopping down the street on occasion, but you would never see that in say Sydney, or in the main street of Coffs...too much traffic and people.
My town...30kms north of Coffs is a small beachside community, so I've even seen them on the beach...(but VERY rarely)
They dont go through the garbage, or break into your house...:24: (I'm sorry Janie, you're so cute)...They dont make noises....especially that damn "kissing' sound that Skippy used to make.

Any other questions? I am more than happy to answer them.:D

lol well bears and racoons will break in! I don't think deers will....:p

what do they eat? just plants? are they dumb or smart?

do they do things like hop into glass (they do only hop right?)?

they have those sticker things you have to put on glass so birds won't fly into them and kill themselves - do you have to do anything like that for roos? :D

As far as I know, just plants. They are pretty dumb...they hop straight out in front of you or into you on the highway, its heartbreaking...(and yes, they only hop).

Never had one hop into the glass, but I would imagine its probably happened before somewhere...they wouldn't know it was a reflection and I dont think a sticker would help.

poor roos

why are there so many? people don't eat roos?

They breed quickly, dont have any natural predators really except for maybe wild dogs, so they qucikly become pests.

Yeah..roo meat is yummo...but it has to be killed properly, same as a cow or sheep. I dont think you can just go shoot a roo, cook him up and eat him....disease maybe?

I'd have to check on that one.

Is eating kangaroo meat considered acceptable or do people frown upon it...kinda like eating eat horse meat?

CRIKEY Janie...I'm not friggin STeve Irwin....:willy_nilly::24:

Ummm...all different sizes....from light browns to dark reds....the joeys are adorable...I get sick ones at work a lot coz we have a WIRES lady that lives there..

I have NO IDEA of the gestation period, but they stay in the pouch for quite a while after they are born.

No striped ones....and no one in their right mind would keep one as a pet....they may nurse an injured one, but I;ve NEVER know anyone WANT to keep one.
