#1 - Go to town and get a new chain for the saw
#2 - Return home and install said chain
#3 - Try and start saw. Rip cord from within saw
#4 - Fight for 1 hour to repair cord
#5 - Remove recoil again because I forgot to wind the recoil spring up
#6 - Install pull start mechanism again
#7 - Start saw.... woot...woot
#8 - Cut down stumps
#9 - Clean up
#10 - Shower
#11 - Remind myself never to allow a logger to not complete the job

It took me three hours once the saw fired up. I couldn't imagine doing that for a living.

This reminds me of this thing I used to watch on tv. It was a lumberjack competition. Very strange but addictive.

Please tell me you wore a plaid flannel shirt and suspenders when you did that? Oh and great job by the way. Sounds like a lot of work!

I've watched that show a few times and am amazed what they can do. We had loggers here for a week last summer and they were something to see. Bloody amazing what they can do with a saw. Damn hard work and I have no idea how they can do it day in and out.

No plaid shirt but I did have a pair of wide suspenders on. I always wear suspenders cuz my pants would fall off if I didn't.

I hate stumps. We had to cut three trees down in the front yard because of the Ash Borer attack in these here parts.

Now we've got to pull the stumps. This winter we had orange cones to mark them when the snow fell so no one would drive into or over them.

Should be as soon as the ground thoroughly thaws and the pickup truck is gassed up and ready to roll.... pull. :D

Borrow a neighbors tractor so you don't pull the bumper off the truck... or are that small stumps?

I wanted to use the tractor today to get rid of the wood. It would have been so easy if I could have tossed it into the bucket instead of having to use a wheelbarrow and haul it to the burning pile a few hundred yards away. I figured the ground wasn't dry enough and I didn't want to leave ruts in the grass. That would have resulted in more work. 7 heaping loads of wood and 1 of sawdust. Wet old wood is not light. grrrrrrrr

The biggest was about a foot across. Baby trees really. But I'm gonna miss the shade they provided.

I want to put some evergreens in that area now. I won't have the shade for a few years. But I'm patient.

I've still got a big old cottonwood tree out there to sit under. So... it won't be too bad. Until the sun drops off in the sunset that is. As it gets lower... the cottonwood won't be able to shade the whole house. That's where the window shades will come in handy. No view.... but it should keep the heat at bay from the sun.

Boo....hiss. I hate evergreens for a couple of reasons. They shed needles like there's no tomorrow and where those drop grass won't grow. We've got lots of 80 footers left on the yard and if it were up to me they would all be gone.

I love maple trees especially once they get big. I don't like the leaves I have to rake in the fall though. Damn if you do and damn if you don't.

Yes. I hear you on the evergreens.... I don't really mind.

We have a gazillion oak trees here. A few maple trees. Pines scattered hither and fro. Plus some others. On the 10 acres.... we have two decently wooded areas. Pleasant on walks with the trails we've made. Up by the house.... Not so many now. A few by the pond. Pretty much all the ash trees are dead now. Damn ash borer.
