So the purpose of a lens hood is to protect the lens?
You can say that, but from flying grit and other hard substances it won't protect the lens if it is going straight towards the lens

I think Canon blew it with the 7D when they mixed still with video. To me it's one or the other so I won't be rushing out to get one. Like you I love my 50D and would like to snag a second body. Not much into the idea of video recording, but ouch...but then again, I love my 50D

Yeah, they did mess up with putting video on their cameras, just a shame I don't like the video side of their SLRs

i have a few friends who do film. they are all opting for the 5Dmk2. they love it. its small and light enough to hold steady (compared to the beasts that they normally use) they have loads of choices of lenses and get brilliant depth of field. also the full frame chip, so not much noise. I think its the way forward. i wouldnt use the function my self. but i can see its appeal.
I just got a new lens! It's massive and doesn't fit in my camera bag! :willy_nilly: This sucks because I just got my camera bag a couple of months ago.Ah welll, such is life. I feel the need to test the equipment. Be back later.

I'm cold-blooded so I generally don't like going outside in winter. I'm curious to know, however, at what point should I be concerned about the cold negatively affecting my camera if I'm outside taking pictures? -10C? -20C? Colder?
Zirc you don't have to worry about it. They take pictures in the arctic yanno.![]()
One hot tip though. Make sure you have a nice cozy towel in both your house and your car. When you come back in from being outside wrap your camera and lens up immediately and keep it there until it's adjusted to the inside temp. That keeps the humidity from building up inside your gear.
Geez, I don't even know where my manual is. :willy_nilly:You have to read the manual and see what the min/max operating temperature is, although that is an estimate
