Anyone have a loved one incarcerated?

It's absolutely heartbreaking. My son is in until 2014. He's my first-born, and my life. I get to talk to him every other day for twenty minutes, but the time always seems too short. And I write to him everyday, but it is hard to visit since he is 2000 miles away.

Sometimes I have panic attacks thinking something bad has happened to him.

I've thought about joining support groups, but those people may be even more messed up than my family is.

I have a very close friend who is in prison until 2018. Since he's in another state, I only get to speak with him through letters. I know the worry about something happening. :( If a few days pass without a letter, I start to get panicky and it sucks because there's no way to pick up a phone and make sure he's okay.

what's he in there for?

My dad's brother, my uncle is in and out of jail...but we don't talk to him and most of the time it's his own fault.

yes, Laure the panic is awful, isn't it?

when he was in the jail, I could call and they would tell me if he was in the hole or what

but the prison won't tell me jack and Pimp says not to call anyway because it will draw more attention to him

burglaries.. businesses at night
did it for two years.. feds had a 16k reward.. a room mate turned him in for the money
I had no idea.. he was supposed to be going to college, which he was during the day
it was very political.. town meetings and all to catch him
the business owners wanted to hang him
he was sentenced to 18
the 5 years is his earliest parole date

so they have him on this "Under 21" diet
but thankfully he will be getting more food when his 21st bday is here on Feb 1st
I think they give those kids just barely enough to sustain them so they don't get too big from lifting weights

I know exactly what you mean. I'm not family, just a friend, so I can't get any information at all. Plus, I know that if something were to happen, nobody would call and let me know.

He was up for parole two years ago, and I was on pins and needles waiting to hear something. It was a week later before his letter arrived letting me know he got denied. It's also so irritating to know that everything I send him gets read first by somebody else, and vice versa. Of course, I never say anything that could get him in trouble, but some of the things we exchange are very private and it makes me mad to know others get to read that.

why was he denied parole?

He was charged with murder, but they found him guilty for voluntary manslaughter. I don't really know all the ins and outs of how it works, but from what I understand, he didn't show proper remorse for his crime.

Is he allowed to have pictures and stuff? What about sketch pads and things like that? They used to allow my friend to have regular graded drawing pencils, but now he's only allowed one regular #2. I know that when he was allowed, he loved drawing stuff to mail to people.

why don't they understand they MUST show remorse?!

It's tough for him. His little sister was getting beat up by her boyfriend, and my friend's final straw broke one night when she came in with a bloody nose. He ran out and met the guy in the driveway and things went too far. I wasn't there, so I only know what he told me.

His problem is that he won't say he would have done anything different if given the chance.
