 Playoffs? Explain...
Bruins and Oilers were ties 2-2 in the first overtime of the 1990 Stanley Cup Final (game one, mind you). Wesley came down the chute and was dragging his puck and Ranford watched him, suddenly Ranford trips...HE'S ON THE ICE...all you have to do is shoot it in the empty net......Wesley ROOFED it!!!!!!

oh gawd, the pain...
Bruins and Edmonton played into triple overtime when Peter Klima scored and they went on to win three straight. Bruins won game four to send it back to Boston for game five, but it was too late...

OH! Roofed as in missed the net high? Lol! I thought you meant he scored top shelf where momma keeps the cookies and I was wondering why that would cause you pain. :24:

Tell me about it! The Flames put in a run once every few decades but other than that go out in the first round. It makes me want to smash things! :willy_nilly:

 Thornton is the epitome of choke. I still can't figure out why they put him on team Canada for the Olympics. At least his lack of clutch play didn't hurt them too much.
I was baffled why they picked him for Team Canada.
The guy is about as useful as tits on a board

Hey PJers...can't believe they didn't suspend him.

No suspension for Penguins' Cooke over Savard hit
Wednesday, March 10, 2010
By Shelly Anderson, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Penguins winger Matt Cooke had a phone hearing with NHL disciplinarian Colin Campbell this afternoon, but Cooke will not be suspended for his hit to the head of Boston's Marc Savard.
Canadian network TSN said the NHL was following its precedent after Philadelphia's Mike Richards was not suspended earlier this season for a similar hit to Florida's David Booth.
Cooke checked Savard with his upper arm during the third period of Sunday's 2-1 Penguins win. Savard was taken off the ice on a stretcher and received a Grade 2 concussion.
Cooke is expected to be in the Penguins lineup Thursday night when they play at Carolina.

I think it's funny that because Mike Richards wasn't suspended, they decided not to suspend Cookie. I really thought they'd make an example out of him.

Matt Cooke was a problem when he played here in Vancouver.. But he is not the only bad player.. How many go out with knee on knee shots on a regular basis that don't get called..

Now the league wants to ban all blind shots.. I tend to agree but how and who will monitor this ?

If they keep introducing rules about hitting and such pretty soon hockey will be a non-contact sport. :mad What they need to do is get rid of the instigator rule and a lot of the crap that goes on would go away.

What they need to do is get rid of Bettman.. :D

I agree that over taxing the rule book will not solve all the problems.. I think that applying the present rules more effectively might be a better approach then anything new.. But this is the NHL we are talking about..

It's kind of a shame too because he's not a bad role player. He can get in front of the net and get the puck in once in awhile to boot. That hit could have been done completely clean and have the same effect of taking Savard out of the play. I was watching back a retrospective (yes, I'm a giant dork) of the Pens run for the cup yesterday and saw a highlight from one of the Detroit games and he made the same kind of hit right across the middle of the ice.

Yeah, there are a lot of dirty hitters out there. If the NHL would get their heads out of their butts and crack down on the dirty hitters consistently, I think there would be less of a problem. Instead they go the other way and allow bad hits to set the wrong precident i.e Richards doesn't get punished so Cooke won't...OR they go the other way and ban everything...that's bassackwards!

i know it sounds crazy, but they may get into more hot water if they do attack Cooke, and the rest of the Penguins

The Pens aren't typically THAT physical with a few exceptions. So the hot water they'd possibly get into would come from the NHL and not so much from the Pens. Remember the knee to knee hit Ovechkin got away with on Gonch last year that knocked him out for quite a few games? I really thought someone would have taken his number and nah...

Someone took a number you can guarantee that.
Although I didn't see the hit, was it intentional?
If it was truly an accident, then it'll probably just let go.

I don't know if it was intentional in the fact that he wanted to do that kind of damage. I don't think anyone WANTS to knock a player out and potential end his career. However, he clearly put his elbow up which is a bad hit. He could have easily just come across and hit him clean and taken him out of the play...but he didn't. :( I love my Pens but I don't like a dirty hit like that.

There's seriously no need for hits like that anymore.
He knew exactly what he was doing looking at that video.
Did he at least get a game misconduct?
That blows me away he wasn't suspended.
Savard was just finishing his shot, you can clearly see Cooke looking at Savard.
WTF is wrong with the governing bodies (Colin Campbell in specific) of the NHL?
Bettman is truly a moron who knows nothing about hockey.
His job is to ensure the owners make money, not govern hockey.

get rid of helmets and get rid of the instigator rule and this shit would stop

players have no respect

I like the two handers to the back of the knee when a guy in his defensive zone turns to go up ice. the play is behind the scene and rarely called as a result. Somebody will get a career ending injury one day from one of those.

He didn't even get a minor penalty for it. It was funny too because when the hit happened I said to my friend, "Well that's a fine and at LEAST a five game suspension." I was shocked he got absolutely nothing.

I'm with you on the hits too but I think the crackdown really has to start from the top down and officials need to get their heads out of their asses. There is no way that hit was missed by anyone on that ice. I can understand a mia culpa once in awhile on the part of the officials...they can't see everything. But they really let a lot slide...clearly.

I agree 100% with you.
I also agree that the officials can't see everything, but Colin Campbell and Bettman have access to the replays.
Truly baffling how they didn't deem that as Fine\Suspension worthy.
It starts at the grass roots level, teach the kids not to hit like that and they (hopefully) won't hit like that in the big league.
