A paradox of plenty - hunger in America

"...a poor child born in Germany, France, Canada or one of the Nordic countries has a better chance to join the middle class in adulthood than an American child born into similar circumstances.”

They also don't have to put up with 310 million people.

I agree with Lord Stanley, the author doesn't go into any real detail about how socialism will help. Besides, we already have social programs in place: welfare, food stamps, unemployment benefits.

he just wants to make more commentary how awful america is.

i'd call this trolling but apparently the token posts he makes elsewhere on the forums has other people fooled.

From the article:
Call it a paradox of plenty. In the world’s wealthiest country, home to more obese people than anywhere else on earth, almost 50 million Americans struggled to feed themselves and their children in 2008. That’s one in six of the population. Millions went hungry, at least some of the time. Things are bound to get worse.
Most of our obese people also fall into that category of those struggling to feed themselves. Go figure.

Your trolling accusation does not hold water. Now read this:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. government on Tuesday urged Americans to volunteer to help feed their neighbors, noting that almost 15 percent of the country's households had a hard time getting enough to eat last year.

I posted that in another forum.

Can you guys be more positive? These are some of the responses I had from this thread which I posted in another forum:
I would gladly, give some of my food to the poor. Like my grandmother, who helps at the thanksgiving I at least do my civc duty to help out, when I can at least.

I do part of my taxes goes to food stamps.

I do my part to I think about volunteering.

I volunteer, I vote for the people that give my income to poor people. I already donate almost 30% of my income.

How am I supposed to help feed them? Can't they feed themselves? I mean I'll provide the food, but I don't want to put it in their mouths or chew it or them.

And by the way,

It's an American tradition to suspect that the neighbors are hostile.

You think about it? I gave a spiral ham to the senior group home my mother in law stay at for thanksgiving.
