Every year about this time the Bald Eagles gather at a few spots in an area a good hours drive from where I live. They gather to feast on the salmon that die and it can make for some interesting shots. Last year on one day they counted around 2000 birds at one time. This year the fish are very scarce so not that many are around. Snow geese are usually seen as well as numerous species of other water fowl. Not this year.

For the last 3 weekends I've been going out to try and shoot a few and each time the weather hasn't cooperated. When the weather is lousy the birds tend to be very inactive and today wasn't an exception but I fell like posting something anywhoo so here goes.

This is the kind of day I was faced with

lol, because I have torrents running, and my internet is slow (and I didn't read what section this was in) the text showed up before the pictures.

So I concluded you had gone out hunting Bald Eagles, and was horrified. :D

Also, Great shots!

I love the mountains. Sorry the weather didn't cooperate.

I remember a few years ago, I was on a mini vacation and there was this stream that ran right through the town we were visiting. The salmon were spawning. I have never seen so many salmon... or any fish.... in such a magnitude. I was amazed and at the time I didn't have my camera with me. I watched them.... hundreds and hundreds.... side by side.... barely room for anything else.....swimming on and on.... it was unbelievable.

Anywho.... seeing a large group of birds, animals, etc., is truly an amazing experience.

:24::24: I'm an animal lover and wouldn't ever consider shooting anything especially wildlife. Not even our own beef. I let someone else shoot those. :D

Thanks... better than last weeks that's for sure. Next weekend they are threatening some sunshine. Maybe, just maybe I'll get lucky.

It is so.

I have seen such rivers as you described and it is something to behold. It does get kind of nasty after they finish spawning and decide to die on the riverbanks. Kinda stinky as well.

awesome shots!!

That you Jessica. I appreciate it.

Nice pics!

Were the eagles not even trying to stay away of you?

Thanks cycle guy.........

They are farther away than what you think. I was using a 200mm lens and ended up cropping them quite a bit. They are quite timid as a rule but around this time of the year they get a little careless at times because all they have on their minds is the salmon.

Thanks Ian. I'm glad you like it.

I will continue going back until I get the " right " shot. You know what I mean. ;)

I glad you approve Dollface. Thanks for coming around. I miss you. :)

Thanks Thorny Girl. I like that one the bestest as well. I've got many more from previous outings but I want some new stuff. I'll get a better one for you some day.

Glad you liked it.

I hope you were joking about the beautiful day. I got soaked trying to keep my gear dry.
