I drove to Montreal once....got caught in a wicked snow storm on the way home....lost all braking power on the way back...almost drove off the road a couple times..took nearly 12 hours to get home (twice the time) and when I got home...ugly...but i was back in my bed..and not worth the trip....it wasn't Montreal's fault...nor the person I was with...just everything changed after that...
I drove from Tucson AZ. to Norfolk VA, and back. By myself. If I had to do it all over again. I would cut out as much of Texas as possible. Long and boring.

My college road trip to Boston from Minneapolis - by thatguyjeff
My junior year a friend and I drove out to Boston. We were in a fraternity and the national convention was there that year. The rest of our chapter took a charter coach, but they were exactly two seats short so we volunteered to drive ourselves. Best decision we ever made, because the coach ride (we later found out) was hell on earth.
For whatever reason, the coach left Mpls. at midnight and we started our trip following the coach. Trip was over Christmas break, so - dead of winter. And this was also back during our serious stoner days. We had a duffle full of grass, a bunch of speed, and enough Mountain Dew to support a small Japanese fishing village.
The plan was to drive straight through - which we did, thanks to much speed and Dew.
The grass and speed dried us out, so we started out guzzling the Dew like we had just crossed the Sahara. This caused us issues with our bladder. I bet we stopped to pee 5-6 times in the first four hours of the trip. Realizing this strategy was getting us nowhere fast, we steeled our loins and had no more liquids for as long as we could stand it. This helped on the bladder front, but created other problems (as you can probably imagine).
The trip itself was relatively uneventful, though much fun. We drove cautiously, as we had no business driving as impaired as we were, plus we were carrying enough contraband to be put away for life. I recall a snowstorm or two in Penn and/or New York state, but that was about it.
We arrived in Boston (somehow) a good 10 hours before the coach - took us just under 24 hrs with only food, potty, and gas stops. We later learned that the coach had some serious sanitation issues, most notably the toilet compartment and toilet malfunctioning less than halfway to the destination.
All in all a most awesome roadtrip.

It's southern Alberta, I just really miss seeing rivers, lakes and mountains. Also I'm curious about the new mall they built around Calgary.

Oh wow... that is a very scary... I hate driving when it's that type of weather outside, also 12 hours of driving really really hurts but I'm glad you made it back safely, I heard a lot about Montreal, beautiful city with very crazy drivers.
Not much to talk about with your family or friends who are riding along with you?
Is Texas really that bad? I almost got dragged into going there

My fam and I went on a great one when I was younger, visited a ton of different states to see aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. It was really relaxed, "Let's just drive here now..." I also remember looking for gas that cost 1.50 and thinking it was expensive at the time.

Balzac Mall is cool! You should go see it! The Bass Pro shop is absolutely INSANE! The place is huge and has tons of mounted animals in various nature poses all over the place. If I hadn't been miserable when I was there I would have taken pictures.
As for my road trips, I've gone on three roadtrips with the same friends the past three years to see Flames games in Calgary. On every one of them I've ended up miserable and in tears at some point so perhaps I'm done with that now.
The best roadtrips I've gone on have been with my sister. We went to Edmonton in December 2003 to see the Flames play the Oilers and it was epic. We left Winnipeg on the bus at 8:00pm and got to Edmonton at noon the next day. We wandered around a mall close to the Greyhound station in the afternoon and then went to the game in the evening. We got back on the bus just after midnight and got back to Winnipeg the next evening. We both streaked our hair in team colors before we left Winnipeg. Me with red because I'm a Flames fan and her with blue and orange because she's an Oiler fan. We had our hair like that the whole trip because we didn't stay at a hotel where we could get cleaned up. By the time we got back things were starting to get kinda gross. Ah, good times with the sister. :24:
I went to Disney World for the first time every when I was like 13 or 14. Went with the whole fam and of course we finally go and what happens? Disney breaks. Yes, you heard me right. Every electronic component in every Disney park around the world just failed. It was only for about hour and a half, two hours, but c'mon, seriously. At the time I was very upset but looking back on it now I think it is really funny.

I want to see if it's better than our malls in Edmonton and I heard a lot about it, just one problem with it though which is the traffic. I also always wondered if Calgary has better shops than Edmonton. I wouldn't mind hanging out at Stephen Ave Mall again like last time, I still remember that dude I met there.:24:

We're moving Saturday. (At least) 10 hours in a rental truck with a two year old. I'll let you know how that turns out.
My friends live in Gibsons. Last year, they took me on a road trip down Vancouver Island. We drove up to Powell River, caught a ferry across to Comox (Little River) and then drove down to Victoria, stopping at a few little places on the way taking in the goats on the roof amongst other things. Then we travelled a bit north again (I forget where) to catch a ferry back to the mainland somewhere south of horseshoe bay before going on that ferry to langdale.

I remember going on a road trip when I was sixteen from London to Hamburg with my father - it was awesome, we were going to see a Dire Straits concert up there, which turned out to be overbooked. Dire Straits ended up playing an extra night in a tiny college basketball hall so the gig was fantastic. The journey took probably a total of 30 hours of driving, but we broke the journey up by stopping fairly regularly. I didn't get to see my father much so it was a rare treat!
