I did this fireplace a while back.
The homeowner and I spent an hour picking the pieces for the inlay.
What do you see in it?
I'll post what I see later so as not to influence perception.

hope you don't mind, I cut it down to size.

to be honest, i can see many differing images, all revolving around the concept of fire.

but, it looks to be a flame that is the remnant of an impact, maybe an extra-terrestrial object, .. but not the exact instant it contacts the ground.. but a few microseconds afterward (east/west tiles). but the southern tile continues the object's path into the ground, without knowing the results on the surface (subterranean impact), whereas the northern tile seems to carry the theme of the surface-side calamity, but only to the extent where it meets the east/west tiles; otherwise, the northern tile represents where the object came from, burning it's bridges.

and no, i'm not on anything. although, i am a bit tired and hungry...

Wow, that was pretty deep.:)

The top and bottom and left and right pieces are bookmatch pieces like pages in a book. They were then oriented point to point to get that effect. It took quite a bit of sorting and trial and error before we found the right combination.

Sugarpie... You can cover all my bases anytime you get the urge to. ;)

Not sure what the hell that has to do with the topic at hand.... but does it matter anyway? :D
