I Thought these quotes which I saw on FDR's memorial very fitting to apply to today:

I never forget that I live in a house paid for by the American people and that I have been given their trust.

We have faith that future generations will know that here, in the middle of the twentieth century, there came a time when men of good will found a way to unite, and produce, and fight to destroy the forces of ignorance, and intolerance, and slavery, and war

I propse to create a civilian conservation corps to be used in simple work...more important, however than the material gains shall be the moral and spiritual value of such work.

We must scrupulously gaurd the civil rights and civil liberties of all citizens, whatever their background, we must remember that any oppression, any injustince, any hatred, is a wedge designed to attack our civilization.

I think he is now my favorite president.

:24: I wonder if he said this as he scrupulously loaded Japanese-Americans into internment camps for the duration of the war! :24:

Yeah other than getting us into a war he said we would not, interring the Japanese, and dragging out the depression with moronic spending plans he was a really swell guy :D

When FDR died we were all let out of school, had a memorial in the playground and sent home to our weeping parents. He was a wonderful man. He had the courage mostly lacking today in all spectrum's of the political scene. I used to, even as a little boy listen to parts of FDR's "fireside chats" on our old radio. I was 9 when he passed.

He was an arrogant man who came from wealth. He tried to pass legislation that would allow him to appoint 5 new Supreme Court justices because several things he did were over turned by the Supreme Court. People think he saved the day. And he did bring a calm but his policies were abysmal and extended the depression. Were it not for WWII who knows how soon things would recover. Thankfully congress eventually mandated term limits on the president. About the only good thing that he indirectly accomplished :D

The one conspiracy I actually think could be true is Roosevelt's knowing about Pearl Harbor beforehand, and allowing it to happen. I think it's entirely plausible, because despite everything else he'd done our economy was still in shambles, and there was increasing pressure from our European allies to help. Of course we'll never know, but it's possible.
