Well, at least I think they are! Correct me if I'm wrong.. Leah's thread reminded me of this thing which suddenly put on a spurt I've not seen at all in the previous 5 summers I've been here.

One of the pics has a flying friend near the stone rose too. See if you can spot it.

I have never heard of them either. They look like a mixture of a bromeliad and a cactus.
