He picked the wrong time to get murdered. It would have been front and center. You have all the trappings for a huge story.

Muder or Murder Suicide
Married man with 20 year old lover
Months old affair

I am gonna guess this one might be a double murder. Look for the ex boyfriend as the culprit.

Except the girl only had one bullet and McNair had 4. If it was the ex-boyfriend seems he would have shot her more than once.

Fuzz and Fred, that is my thinking as well, it's only logical that if it were the ex-boyfriend, he would have been so emotional as to shoot her more. However, it's so odd the police haven't said she was a suicide. Sounds like a plot found only in movies.

We think alike.

typically when its a crime of passion the person that the killer is taking it out on makes its very personal. in this case you have someone shot 4 times, including a head shot and someone shot once on the side of the head. im gonna say murder sucicide

only takes one shot to kill.

he shoots her in the head by surprise at point blank but then has to shoot more to make sure he got McNair as he is sitting in a chair.

Jealous ex boyfriend is more plausible than this girl doing it. No signs yet I have heard of where she was overly emotional or temperamental

But then I am just guessing. :D

Thus another reason I am doubting it was a suicide. They usually can come up with a preliminary idea by now based on reports of prior arguments or ones temperament. Unless she comes up as being drunk or on drugs I don't see it as a suicide. The ex had dated her for several years. What would he have to warn her about as McNair had no track record of abuse as I recall. Jealousy can create rage.

The evidence, like the position of the bodies and the gun, would also seem to provide early clues. Like if the gun under her body doesn't obviously jibe with how she would have fallen onto after the shot. Or possibly she doesn't have gun powder traces on her hand.

I know, I know, sounds like CSI, but I followed a murder case here in my state wherein the perpetrator attempted to make it look like he was the intended victim of a murder/suicide. However, due to the lack of gun powder on the victim's hand and the location of the gun, the police quickly called it a homicide.

That's why I think there is some chance McNair's murder is more than it might appear.

One of my professors had the thought that perhaps his wife hired someone out to do it. Maybe the girl wasn't expected to be there.

But then there's the issue of the gun being under her body...
