When I was a kid we played outside all the time and insects can be quite entertaining.
I was reminded of being a kid and playing with bugs when I saw a RolyPoly crawlin across the carpet in my office. I put him outside.

I used to catch snakes, ladybugs, grasshoppers, spiders, and worms... i'd take the legs off the grasshoppers and let my cat eat them... and my Dad would light the spiders on fire... they pop like firecrackers.

That count? :D

I fished with crickets, grasshoppers & worms. We did salt some snails which was our most cruel acts.

When I was a kid there was a certain type beetle which would burrow into the sand & stay. If you put a broomstraw in the indention & twirl it around the beetle would climb up the broomstraw.

We also use to catch fireflies in a jar at night.
Catching bees during the day in a jar was something else we did.
We always let them go after a while.

We used to catch those large carpenter bees and tie a piece of thread around their leg and fly them like kites.

I played with bugs when I was a kid...fireflies and butterflies were my favorites. I also used to play with frogs, toads, salamanders, and snakes...probably why I'm not really afraid of bugs and creepy crawlies...except for millipedes (or million leggers as we sometimes call 'em) that crawl up the drains...those are the only ones that really ook me out.

Yes I did. RolyPolies, catepillars, worms something we called tomato bugs. They were a kind of green catepillar with a thorn on the tail end. I never actually touched them, just used whatever was at hand to scoop them up.

I learned the hard way about red ants when I quite young. :(

We would go on bug hunts, upturning everything that looked like it could harbor bugs!

Basically if it crawled, I was interested, including toads, frogs, salamanders and snakes, though they were rare where I lived.
