Um....... a Grizzly is a Grizzly regardless of where it is. As far as I know there are only two bears that are bigger. One is the Alaskan brown Bear aka Kodiak and the other is the Polar Bear.

I lived in northern B.C. about 40 years ago and a Grizzly came through the camp next to us. It destroyed everything, and I mean destroyed. Quite the sight to see.
 
Some of the ones further North are huge, some of their paws are bigger than the size of my head :eek

I never ever want to run into one, I'd be scared shitless since they have a ton of strength. I admire their beauty but I don't want to be too close to one, ever.

She wasn't referring to a different species, the grizzlies up there are bigger just from natural geological isolation. Still technically the same species, but different because of their location. Natural selection ring a bell? :D
 
We had a brown bear and her cubs one summer when I still lived at home...that was big enough and not as big as that beastie! They are deceptive looking though...in that one shot it even looks like it has a little happy grin on its face. It's merely conspiring. ;)

Closest we get to a bear is a koala, and he's not a bear. Not even scary

I went on a weekend trek to Northern Canada and the Arctic. :p Actually I took them at a zoo. :24: There's no way in hell I'm getting that close to a grizzly. :eek

The zoo :willy_nilly: I never even thought of it, mainly cuz I would get that lose to a Grizzly in a heart beat for a good pic.... :D and well I have gotten closer to a wild polar bear--but that's a different story
 
those thing scare the shit out of me! I saw them in Banff. They used to have an alert out for all night shift people. I used to walk home a 3-5 mile hike and was always terrified of walking into one of them.

Great shots but even just seeing them in a picture reminds me of how afraid i was when i saw them live. I'll take a black bear over a massive scary grizzly any day.
