On the way back downstream I was told it would be real quick back through the culvert. HA! Like that was gonna happen or even make a difference. I had to walk up a steep embankment, cross the two lane highway, go down the other side's steep embankment.... but I didn't see a spider at all. :D I never will go into culverts again! Period!

Yes.... A slap.....I was probably a sight and he was afraid I was going to have a heart attack or something. I have never never never screamed as hard or as long as I did that day. I swear it took years off my life! :(

I'm sure you are kidding about the spider collection, yes? :cool

you screamed?.......i'm not a rock star:ninja

When I was in Australia there were red backs everywhere which are the Aussie version of black widows, they didn't really bother me, the're little and leave you alone if you leave them alone.

Camel spiders...just what every cam elle toe needs:clap

I had a Huntsman drop onto my pillow one night. He was that big, I felt the pressure of him on the pillow just behind where my head was, and it woke me up.

I put the light on and scooted him out into the hallway where he belonged

Lovely little things I'm sure. However, if I see a spider..... it has to be taken care of or I won't be able to do another thing. I'll just watch it and make sure it doesn't get closer or get away. :willy_nilly:

In our garage..... detached and a few hundred feet away from the house..... there has been found Wolf Spiders. They vary in size. I've only seen one in my house and I had to annihilate it on my own! :willy_nilly:

Needless to say, when I walk into a room, I always do a quick scan of the ceiling and corners. The trouble is I have moldings all along the ceiling edges throughout my home. The little buggers are quick to dive behind them at times. I try not to think about it when they do get away. Mostly. Well... almost.

Well, the wife isn't being completely true about my spider collection. I have one, only because I let them live in the house for the most part.

Yeah, I can see how you'd be spooked after an experience like that.

But I can't kill them, or really anything. I actually think I have an issue with that. To me the squishy, crunching of their little bodies would get to me. That, or the splat :yuk

I have no issues with those that keep spiders in their homes. I just don't visit them. :D

Yes..... those sounds you describe.... :yuk

..... but a relief to me when heard. I figure if they didn't come into my home uninvited, it would be totally different.

Well, then we'll just have to visit you :D

So what about other bugs - you have a fear of anything else?

There is one arachnid I will slaughter every time I see one, and that is ticks. Had a mess of them on the dogs and in the house for years. Finally knocked them down with a three stage, full scale war last year. Damn, they were everywhere. Even to the point of attaching to me. And I was told they don't go after humans. :willy_nilly: Not scared of them, just hate them!!!

Just call ahead. And I will be checking you for ticks at the door..... Just sayin'...... ;)

I don't really have a fear so to speak of other bugs. I have a great dislike for bees, wasps, hornets.... because I have been stung. I live in the country. It's a fact of life out here. If I leave my car parked too long by the garage, they start to make a nest in the side view mirrors or in the door jambs! WTH? They are constantly making little nests that I find on my deck and up in the eaves of the house.

And those da amn Asian Lady Bugs! Them little snots bite! They get behind the siding and end up in the window sills and before you know it, they're in the house! 10 to 20 or more at a time! I just vacuum them up. Too much noise to squish 'em all! :D

And we also have a dog that brings in ticks on occasion. We have deer here, so that worries me some. Not much you can do but keep checking your dog.

Yes, he lives in our hallway. I had 3 in there once, but that was too much even for me. I had to put 2 outside

Redbacks are very poisonous. They can kill a small child.

the only spider that scares me is the white tailed spider. He's one that causes (in the immortal words of Alice Cooper)
"creeping ulcerations of the skin" that keep on growing up the limb that was bitten

Who started this damn spider thread anyway?

These stories are gruesome. I know I'm gonna have some sweet dreams tonight.

Redbacks and whitetails didn't bother me too much when I was out there. I know the're poisonous but they leave you alone if you leave them alone, I've even handled a redback. One of the mother in laws neighbours had their little kid running in once with something to show her. She had a whole handful of redbacks she had collected and not one of them bit her.
The ones out there that worry me are the Sydney funnelwebs, deadliest spiders on earth and they actually go for you!
