How old is the Earth?

Well, nobody claimed that every single thing that science tells us is 100% correct, but science has certainly told us more facts than any religion has or ever will. After all, creationists only rely on things that science currently cant explain, as evidence, in the olden days there were Flat earth and Geocentrism, science proved those as being completely wrong. If we still had religious medicine, we'd be drilling holes in peoples cranium to let the evil spirits out, and such. And then of course there were the witch burnings and the crusades, but thats another chapter altogether.

I'm just glad we cannot be burned or tortured for questioning Dogma these days.......:fing27

I'm with the "Billions" club. I'm also of the opinion that some scientists can be too tied to their Dogma also. One's first mistake is to assume they are totally correct. That is the point the mind closes to other options.

I've been prepared for years to find out everything we have learned to date is just a bit 'off'......:cool

i was watching the news yesterday and this guy was talking about politics and obama, then out of nowhere he says since earth has been around for 10,000 years blah blah something about politics *wait sir! play that back! did he say 10,000?* I really believe it is somewhere between 4-5 billion years. my grandmother (the biggest devout christian) believes the earth to be about 2000

Science is a bunch of hooey sometimes...

they can't agree if the big bang really happened or if the universe has just always "been"

they have no idea how old the Earth is... When I was growing up we had no idea about ANYTHING that lived before the dinosaurs I never learned there were even periods until after I saw Jurassic Park :24:.

they can't even agree how the dinosaurs bit the dust. The meteor/comet theory isn't fully accepted!

Most creatures we today call dinosaurs went extinct 65 million years ago, earliest evidence of modern humans are from about 10,000 BC I think.
Modern humans emerged about 190,000 to 200,000. Early man had already spread to every continent of the world and in many places begin developing farming techniques by 10,000 BCE. Pottery found in Japan dates to 12,000 BCE which means there were definitely people around before 10,000 BCE. :)

God and science are not mutually exclusive, neither is god and evolution. ;)

You're right, I didn't bother looking that up last time, but now that you corrected me, thanks.

Well... That lies in the eye of the observer.

I can't tell you how many shows I have watched where some scientists are unbelievably closed-minded. It blows my PeaBrain and makes me glad my formal education stopped at high school cuz I like to think I'm open-minded enough to embrace new, possible concepts and not tied down to what I learned in 'school'.

and if we don't do something, Mother Earth will die.

Fear not, She'll shake the fleas & leeches off Her back before we do permanent damage. Count on it..... lyrics coming to me...... "History shows again and again how Nature points out the folly of man" - Godzilla: Blue Oyster Cult.

its crazy to think how egotistical we are and then think we have only been on this old peice of dirt for 2,000 years and the dinosaurs were on it for millions

Considering the fact that China's history goes back how many thousands of years? At least 10k I think - but I ain't sure.

I was watching a Lost Worlds on Harod the other night and they were saying he was the first to build a sea port. I am by no means an expert, but I would venture to say China probably built some sort of sea port long before Harod did........ The History channel tell us bs? Say it ain't so :willy_nilly:;)
