I actually vote Conservative right now so this is in no way taking the piss. I just think the Republicans extreme right, religious, outdated crap, is turning voters off. Dont you think you would fair better if you stopped mixing religion and morals with politics? Our Conservative government got brought down, largely because they were preaching family values while major Conservatives were shagging teenage boys and girls. No problem with that but its best to practice what you preach. Religion is out of date and people are getting sick of it. Wouldn't it be better if Republicans preached right wing ideas but left the religion out of it and were more compationate to the poor? I think they would be on a winner then. :thumbup

The republicans lost me because of their religious family value bull shit.

The religious right became way too powerful. They brought down a once proud party and the leaders, if there are any, do not have the balls to kick the religious shit out into the ocean. Who the hell do those people have left to vote for anyway so why worry about them.

I don't buy into the far right religious issues Parka, in fact that form of conservatism didn't come into play until recently, 10-15 years ago it became really rediculous.

And something you should understand Peter, before you go off on tangents, is the Democratic party in the US, used to be labled the Conservative party;)

The Civil Rights Movement changed that

I'm just speaking from experience and it seems a bit like the USA is repeating our mistakes. Thatcher was a complete bitch but Major, I thought was a good guy, he just couldn't keep his party in line and got caught out on his major issues. I notice that religion is so much more blatently involveed in US politics than it is here, it seems to cloud the real issues. I think you would have a clearer understanding of what is important to your country if you keep religion out of it, that is all.

the religious right got their claws on the republicans during the Regan years and then it has been all downhill since. Now the republicans won't do much of anything that goes against the religious right out of fear they will lose their support. Sheer lunacy because the religious right would have nowhere to turn to as the Democrats sure are not in sync with their priorities.

I agree, the Republicans need to stick to what they are supposed to stand for, low taxes, expansion of business and industry, conservation of the Constitution, limited welfare, military support and adequate funding and national security, borders, language and culture.

They have gotten so whacked out on religion that they have muddied thier own waters:p

Exactly! This is the kind of thing that our Conservatives stand for and I pretty much support, though disagree with some of it. Admittedly its made easier by the Labour party actually being more right wing that the Conservatives. I've always been impressed by the Conservitives on a personal level though, they always seem to take each case individually and with compassion, much more than Labour with their fuck you, I'm big brother attitude. This is what I think the Republicans need to work toward.

Morals come from your religious beliefs, and most everything from the founding of this country was based off christianity and the belief in God. It is important for the country to have moral leaders. Precisely because the people of America have failed(and continue to) to elect good moral people we are seeing the effects it is having on our lives now.

This religious right you keep refering to are the sort of people that helped create the foundation of this country. They are the true conservatives.

I live in the south, i'm christian, and i'm conservative. I guess in your book i belong to this bible thumping, religious right that is destroying the republican party. I however feel it is the rest of the republicans that are destroying the party. I barely consider myself a republican any more. I prefer to consider myself as a conservative because the party is leaving me. The party is suppose to serve me and my beliefs. The republican party needs to return to it's core values. I only hope that the democratic adminstration we have right now helps the party regain its footing. If this change does not happen we may see a third party system here in the US.

Religion(Christianity) is not outdated.

So I disagree, however I think you knew that before you started reading my thoughts.

Religion has been old hat since Gallileo and Copernicus.

Yet it clings on, it will never leave.

You didn't ansewr my question...

Conservative and CHRISTIANITY have everything to do with each other.
They are supposed to serve everybody. Instead of being beholden to the religious right

The religious right took control of the bus during Reagan and in the ensuing years drove the bus into the ocean.

Sounds to me like you are simply spitting out what the media has brain washed you with. :D

I think we will have to just agree to disagree on this one.

Well you would be wrong. I do not let the media determine my beliefs.

So, you want to give up just when this was getting to be fun?? :D

Christianity is a dying religion with more and more people seeing through its lies and hypocricy and abandoning it. What good does it do any party to cling onto an outdated, dying belief while alienating everyone else? None, if your aim is to win elections and get power. I currently vote Conservative in my country but I would never do so in the USA while they cling to what I consider stupid religious beliefs.
