Yea it's definitely true the GS doesn't determine how well the player is. I have had a few fail runs with those geared out compared to me but yet I was one who was out DPS'n and living longer because they just screwed around.
I know my GS isn't high at all, but a week ago I was only at 3800 and that's only cuz I was gone for the last four months. I hope to be above 5k by the end of this week....HOPE is the key word.

i race changed to an orc, since ill probably get the first or second shadowmourne in my guild and i want the axe expertise. as for gearscore, i think most of the people who are "upset" with its use are those who either have low gear sccores, or those who are not a fan of competition. either way, for what its worth, it is useful in determining if a player is worth bringing. a good player in blues is probably not going to be worth taking over an idiot in 245/264s.

tbh gearscore is useless. and any good player will tell you that
a gear score gives me an idea of a player's potential performance. I realize that gear != skill, but at the same time skill can't overcome gear, at least in terms of how I need that player to perform. So that being said, gear scores have their place as a tool, but they're by no means the be all and end all.

Well you couldn't have cleared it in the first night. You probably cleared the first wing that was available in the first night, but seeing as how only 7 bosses are available right now....

lol, quite right, it was just the first wing.
3/9 down in ICC10 right now for our guild... kinda. We have all of four people, and have been pugging the other six spots every week. But we got the first three down the last two weeks, both times with people in the group that hadn't even killed Marrowgar yet. Still hoping to get some more recruits in so we can actually just have guildies that can learn how to play well together, rather than a hodgepodge of PUGs. Going in again tonight to take down Deathbringer (got a few tries on Tuesday), and then get started on Festergut.
Saurfang is such a pain in the ass! My guild is low on raiders so we've been having to pug a good 11 spots each time since no one else in the guild can fill as they are way undergeared. Attempted him 4 times last night in 25 man mode. We failed lol.
Hopefully once we fill the guild it won't be an issue, but til then it's still fun running ICC. Can't wait to try ToGC soon. I just haven't had a chance yet since I'd been gearing up.

Most of ICC is intended to be easy for any 25 man raiding guild. Maybe a few bosses such as Putridicde/Lana'thel are hard, but there are a ton of guilds who will easily walk through that content. Expect that to change with hardmodes in two weeks, though.
As for TotGC, it used to be a bit of a challenge, but now you can easily, EASILY outgear most all of it. Id imagine that Beasts/Jarraxus are easily doable, as they are...pretty simple. Faction Champions is also pretty easy, but you need a few locks/mages/druids to coordinate CC, even at a decent gear level. It is still pretty easy though. Twin Valkyrs Id imagine is not too hard since one of the two hard parts of the fight (the shield you need to break to prevent a heal) is obviously easier due to gear. Anubarak is still probably the hardest boss in the moment in TotGC. I would just keep a mindset of going for 1 or 2/5 in TotGC if you are struggling on Saurfang.
I feel that even if I am not the BEST player, I am more than likely better than 95% of the people that play this game. I can say that gearscore is VERY useful. If someone has 3000 gearscore, they arent going to do more than 5000 DPS no matter how amazing they are. Likewise, even if a tank is amazing, but he has 28,000 HP, he is probably going to get smashed. Gearscore is not a way to tell if someone is a good player, but it is great to tell if they are too undergeared to do something.
ANYWAYS, so this upcoming week Toravon comes out, it is the last week before people begin hardmodes, people are going to start working on legendary fragments, and the arena season is restarting. I am pretty excited. I am going to get my guilds first or second legendary, so I am pretty excited. I just finished the Unholy Fusion quest today, so I just need to do Blood/Frost infusion and I can begin the option of getting legendary fragments

How do you measure good player? I am a five time gladiator on three different classes. I have tribute to insanity in 10/25, I have every drake from PVE I can get. I have done every meta achievement thus far in ICC 25 except for Blood Queen, because it is buggy. I do around 11k+ dps every boss in 25 man with the exception of gunship/deathwhisper if I am killing adds/Putricide if I am not on the boss. I am also able to tank every boss in the game if I am needed to.

on another note, my guild almost killed the lich king on sunday. i frapsed a video from a few days earlier where we were stil learning the fight. we should kill it next week :>

Had our most successful night in ICC10 last night. Didn't get any further than normal, but we recruited two people from the raid (we're still PUGging), with more interested. Only got to try Saurfang twice because it was getting late and we got a late start, but we had him under 20% the first time before all hell broke loose... with two dps that couldn't understand not to get hit by the stupid beasts. Shouldn't have any problem getting him down on Thursday as long as we replace them with competent people.

it comes with time... I've been playing since classic WoW, started about a year after launch, and I played beta.
ICC10 = Icecrown Citadel 10 man difficulty
PUG = pick up group, as in random raid members, not a guild run
Saurfang = 4th boss in ICC, and he spawns blood beasts during the battle that you can't get hit by otherwise he gains power
A little clearer now?
Haven't started playing yet... truth to be told, I haven't even installed it, but I have all the things I need, just waiting for March to have my bandwidth reset. And when I do, Sam promised to twink the holly hell out of me
