Ok.. its the season...
I have been looking at this for a long time.. and well.. here it is.. sorry about putting this here (forum) but this seems to be the best spot.
So... I got my wife an 80gig IPOD classic for her birthday (this month) and I got my self an 80gig Zune Gen 2 for xmas (fam sends money to get what i wanted).
after having both for about 2 weeks now.. here is my conclusions.. be advised .. i really hate microsoft, but see it as a necessary evil after switching to linux for 5 months.. and being forced back into windos.
Also, i have never had a hard drive system before so this is the first time for both (had a 2gig flash mp3 player before)
IPOD - Wow.. I hate Itunes.. um.. ok so the store may be nice, but damn.. this is what everyone raves about? So it doesnt even auto update when you add new music?? i mean wtf? ONly syncs with one system.. and oh yeah her computer only has a 30 gig drive so I had to remove music.. LOL yeah that was fun.. now Itunes has to sync with a home networked folder because i want going to go through the shear pain of what this process would have entailed.. oh that and no longer would syncing work right (she wouldnt have liked manual syncing at all.
the player.. is nice.. feels quality in hand.. the scroll wheel is cumbersome for 20 gigs.. i cant imagine what it will be like for 80. screen has a good look but seems small.. sounds good and compatible with many other devices.
Zune 80. Ok the zune software sucks a little less then ITunes imho. only because i can add new folders to watch elsewhere, and it auto updates. but also is combesome and kinda slow compared to itunes. the market doesnt even have video yet.. beh.
Player.. well im sold on this thing.. its awsome. the squircle (main button) make navigating thousands of songs super easy imho and the interface is much less cumbersome then the IPOD. The screen is bright and about 2x the size of the ipod (yeah i will be ripping dvds to this when i can). Sound quality is same as IPOD but as you will note there is no internal eq. why? yeah i dont know. Comes with premium earbuds which is a nice added touch. Has a built in FM tuner and some kind of wifi in it, which will allow for wireless syncing with a home network.. (havent gotten this to work yet something about my WEP) or another zune for sharing music (though i think this is limited).
Conclusions...if your using itunes already and like it.. or a mac user.. ipod is your choice.. but if your like me and have had neither.. man the new Zune really friggin rocks.. im shocked about how much i dig this thing.
if you have any questions fire away..
