I don't think he's going to be that big in the U.S. Pele played here and couldn't get people to watch. And Beckham's not nearly as good as he was.

well 300,000 Beckham jerseys have been sold since last night when they were released...i think that says something..and honestly when pele came and played, i dont think america was ready for soccer. Soccer has really expanded over the past 20 years and I think its time America took notice.

I think a lot of it has to do with his wife. Soccer has gotten bigger but looked at how every other sport is covered compared to soccer. Even golf has more coverage.

He's only over there because his missus wants to mix with the Hollywood stars and he's being offered a packet for it. He just got a recall into the England team and I think he's regretting this now as it will probably mean he'll get dropped again as he won't be seen playing in a top league. Personally I'm sick to death of all the media coverage over here about it, he's not one of the best players around these days by a long shot and has gone to play for a crap team for loads of money, so what?

Well they didn't when they had the Worlds best player ever, Pele, they didn't when they got to host the world cup so I really don't think they will because some past it footballer who likes to wear his wifes underwear has come over!

haha. well the media coverage has been a good thing for soccer i believe. I think we needed a big wig celebrity type to stir up some hype around here. probably half the people who watched the game were just watching so they could get to gander at victoria in the stands...but who knows, maybe they paid attention and learned something about the game too. Maybe there are more soccer fans here because of him.

Maybe, but the problem is that he and his wife will probably get a lot more media coverage for the celebrities they hang out with and what they get up to in their social life that what he does on the pitch.

Yeah, but maybe some Americans will learn that's not just a baseball term :D

at first, but if everything goes according to plan then just their famousness alone will draw media attention and coverage to soccer. It's a wiley plan but it just might work! I honestly would not have watched the game last week if this had not been going on with DB being here and all. And I like soccer :( or football! sorry i dont mean to offend you by saying soccer peter lol.
