Re: Zombie Apocolypse

But by diversifying, you can prolong how long it takes to run out of ammo, no?

30,000 rounds of ammo is 30,000 rounds of ammo, doesn't matter what caliber it is. Be a real bitch to find out in your haste to bug out that you brought 100 lbs of 7.62x39 ammo and all you have are AR's and AR mags :24:

But, say you only have gun X... and when gun X ammo runs out, you go to raid a store... and find out the only ammo left on the shelves is for A, B, and C guns

And that is one reason to ensure you have something in a common/popular caliber;)

Or you just make sure you have something in every caliber so no matter what ammo you find you can still shoot it:p

Joe raises a good point though... I think you should have multiple types of guns, but only carry one type of gun + ammo on you whenever you go on a raid, to avoid the whole "loading the wrong bullets" scenario.

I have never loaded the wrong bullet. :p

But I guess it can happen, maybe with like .380 and 9mm. The gun still shouldn't fire though. Although I probably wouldn't bother with 380 against Zombies anyways :D

Multiple guns are good though but really just bother with a few in the more standard calibers with an ample supply of ammo for them. Carry a a sidearm in either 9mm, 40 or 45, and either a 12 gauge riot gun or a more long range firearm in a standard military or hunting caliber. Maybe a 22 for hunting rabbits or something. Anything more than that, and yer just showing off. :p Oh but dont forget the machete. ;)

After that runs out...if you find a warehouse full of surplus 7.62 x 51 ammo, I am sure you will be able to find a firearm for it. The US has somewhere around 300 million firearms in civilian hands, add in the military arms, and I am sure you will not have a problem 'scavenging' firearms and ammo for quite sometime.

I guess those that live in the less free parts of the world though will have to resort to throwing sharpened sticks or something. :usa:

Oh....and something like this would be nice too.

I wouldn't dismiss the effectiveness of household items and desperation/imagination off so easily.

& sharp sticks can kill you just as dead as a 50 cal

and given the choice I'll take a head shot from a 50 then falling on the Punji stick.

I'm not saying the weapon isn't better to have, but don't feel invincible if you have them.

Oh course not Clix.

But I was just patting our founding fathers on the back with that statement. :clap
