Many do not secure their wireless networks because they lack the technical know-how, while others are complacent. After you install a new wireless network, change the default passwords. This is vital because hackers have compiled a list of the defaults used by makers of wireless equipment. Instruction manuals will show you how to do this.

Very true statement!! When I first moved to my neighborhood, there were ten different signals I was picking up from my house. Being an IT and the nice guy that I am, I used their routers to print off a message to each user. Basically, I typed a letter telling them to lock down their router, and then printed it onto their printers. I left my phone number and address for them to contact me if they needed help. Only a few of them contacted me because they were scared. They had no idea that someone could get into their networks. A couple of them said the felt as if someone actually broke into their home, their personal space, just from me printing something on their printers.

Good post!

rep for ya

I think thats what he meant. You can find almost any default password for a router by searching online.

My default username and password were admin, admin.

It's not those any more! I also secured mine and am using 128 bit encryption with a 26 digit code.
