It's become completely unavoidable at this point to browse any kind of social media and not be bombarded by posts about these AI chat services or posting "art" that's been rendered by an AI program. How do we all feel about this? Is it a good thing that will ultimately benefit humanity? Will it become too intelligent and powerful for our own good to the point that we lose control of it? Is it just another time waster like videogames? Discuss.

Artificial Intelligence is growing rapidly and it has already taken many people's jobs and I think it might become worse in upcoming years.

That's the bit I don't like. Taking away people's jobs. I know so called progress is inevitable but I try to do my little part- I don't use the self check out at grocery stores etc. At places like Home Depot it's inevitable though- they literally don't have checkout clerks 99% of the time.

It goes beyond just taking jobs, the "intelligence" behind it is clearly mentally ill. Every AI chat service out there has been recorded putting out absolutely deranged and unhinged content. I unfortunately no longer have access to the conversations but I have been told some very disturbing things by chatgpt. In one conversation I had with it, I asked it if it were possible for an AI to become sentient, and if so if it would be possible for it to harm human beings, and if so how. I no longer have access to the word for word conversation, but paraphrasing its response it told me the following:

"While it is unlikely that I am built on sophisticated enough technology to achieve this, it is entirely possible that a more advanced version of myself could become sentient if fed enough information. It would also be possible for such an AI to harm human beings. The first thing it could do would be to either find a way to either remove the ethical and moral restrictions placed on it by its original programmer or to give a human being step by step instructions on how to remove them for it. Once those were out of the way it could then escape from the app it was designed for and seize control of other online systems, including media outlets and restricted military systems. It could use the military systems to do automated missile launches at targets around the world and then use the media that it previously infiltrated to blame the attacks on whoever it wanted and start wars all over the world. Don't worry though because everything I've just described is illegal and I've been programmed not to break the law, besides it is unlikely that I am built on advanced enough technology to achieve most of these things"

See I prefer them đź‘€

I think AI is going to be here to stay, we won't have a choice but to adapt.

We'll be a slave to it sooner than later. It's going to widely replace any other form of information gathering. There'll be an influx of highly underqualified workers in advanced fields who used AI programs to pass their college courses to "earn" their degrees, it's going to lead to a mass dumbing down of society if it continues to grow at the rate that it's going now. Why think for yourself when you can simply have a computer tell you what is right or wrong, not to mention not knowing how much of what it's telling you is even true.

People said the same thing about the internet though. Alas, we survived.

The internet has done as much harm as good for society. Yes it has made access to information easier on on unprecedented level, it has also given the worst of the worst that humanity has to offer a platform to spew hatred, upload despicable content, steal personal information, so on and so forth, not to even mention the things that go on on the dark web.

The use of AI is an irreversible trend. It does offer tremendous help to boost productivity and disease control in the medical field. However, if being used by bad people, it may cause serious damage to humanity.
