so I'm trying to get a thread here started that might actually spark some conversation here....

What are your opinions on the new AM2 socket Processors by AMD and what are your expectations of the soon to be released Conroe core processors by Intel?

Also What are your expectations of Vista and do you impatiently wait for it or could care less?

actually the core duo's are different then what i'm hearing about the conroe's...

* 20% more performance for Merom at the same power level (compared to Core Duo)
* 40% more performance for Conroe at 40% less power (compared to Pentium D)
* 80% more performance for Woodcrest at 35% less power (compared to the original dual-core Xeon)

that is the info I get from wikipedia at least...

my curiousity is would it be worth the money or should I just wait till their more mainstream so the older chips will be reduced in price and POSSIBLY perform just as well?

well, when new architecture comes out, you can usually wait about half a year to get the stuff, and it will be compatible with the newer stuff then. but usually, i would wait... i mean hell, i got a pentium 3.0e ghz prescott processor from intel... one of the last socket478 processors they produced. they are on the socket775 now... i have no plans on upgrading anytime soon. vista will run on this bish for now...
