You have to listen, I guess. Power/Progressive Metal is beautiful music actually. Just listen to one Symphony X song and you'll be amazed. Black Metal has to do with some sinister lyrics and evil music. Death Metal is fucking insane basically, it's for head bangers and mosh pits. There are many more metal genres out there.

And Bacon - you listed like every band I freaking listen to.

Power metal is faced paced and has alot of symphonic guitars and in alot of bands keyboards.

Black metal is alot of keyboard and rhythmic guitars with normally high-pitched screaming.

Death metal is a low growl and heavy everything.
