SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - Police investigators seeking to identify a young boy whose body was left along a dirt road over the weekend believe the body was there for about nine hours before a nearby resident discovered it.
Investigators believe the body was placed along the remote road Saturday morning, and that the boy - who was discovered around 5 p.m. the same day - had died a couple of hours earlier.
Detectives were working Monday to identify the boy based on dozens of tips that flowed in following the release of a computer-generated depiction of the boy.
BOY'S DESCRIPTION

  • 3 feet, 8 inches tall
  • Weighed 45 pounds
  • Had dirty blond hair and blue eyes
  • Believed to have been between 4 and 6 years old.
  • Was found wearing tan pants
  • Blue "Aviator Series" T-Shirt
  • Black "Lighting McQueen" sneakers
The death was deemed suspicious, but investigators withheld autopsy findings.
In addition to checking out tips, state police were reviewing surveillance video in Maine and New Hampshire, as well as looking into reports that a blue Toyota Tacoma extended-cab pickup with a cover was in the area before the body was discovered.
State Police Sgt. Chris Harriman said that based on the appearance of the boy's body, that he appeared to be healthy and cared-for before his death.
The body was found by a woman who lives in the neighborhood. She saw a blanket at the end of a driveway and then discovered the body nearby, police said.
The dirt road where the body was discovered was off Route 4, in a wooded area with about a dozen scattered homes. State police have set up a command post nearby.
Anyone with information is asked to call Maine State Police at 207-657-3030 .
