wright-stuff debate - council homes for life

as per usual this debate will trap,
only the well off will not feel the cap.
i fully understand the shortage and the need,
but failing to build any houses is fuelling the greed.
we are pushing the less well of together and segregating,
this is discrimination i am calculating.
generations may have grown up in your pad,
to false them to move will be a devastating fad.
family's that breed will continue to flourish,
because depriving them of a bigger property we have to nourish.
people coming to this country will not be on hold,
because we have to house them, even if our own are out in the cold.
the whole system is wrong and there is no shield,
because as i said before, its all due to the failure to build.

( did anyone else feel mathew was to over the top this morning and very biased? or is he right ?)
the joe is going off mathew lol

I watched it. Matthew Wright was saying that he thought people shouldn't be allowed to live in a council house for live and if they are working then they should rent privately. If the area they live in has high rent rates (like where I live it is around £700-£900 for a 2 bedroom flat/house) then obviousally they should move to a cheaper area (despite the fact that if lots of people move to a cheaper rent area, they will push the rent prices up).

The problem is sometimes that people are unemployed and in a case like that private landlords won't touch them, for fear of them perhaps not being so reliable with their rent, whereas it's more secure with people in employment, so they have to live in Council housing. I don't think there should be a law on where people can/can't live if they can afford it, someone might like their council house a lot.

I think Matthew Wright is a right tosser but it is funny watching him get his knickers in a twist. People with a different opinion than him? *gasp*

It's not fair to kick people out just because they've started working or telling people that if they can't afford to rent privately they should move to another area. There are many reasons why someone might want to stay in a certain area e.g. family, work, school etc
Where I live is fucking expensive cos it's close to London, Oxford, the M40, has quite good train links to several places, many shops and probably soon a new train line which will go from London to Birmingham and will mean we'll be losing our countryside and some people their homes, but what does that matter when it cuts a whole 30minutes off the existing train route?

Maybe the councils/government should look at creating more council houses and more affordable houses full stop.

That aint gonna happen, Conservatives sell council houses, not build them.

It creates a bit of short term income, but in the long term means more council houses have to be built and costs the country more in the long term.

Council rents are going to be in line with housing association rents within a couple of years. As someone who has moved from a council property to a housing association property, I can tell you housing association is far better with a much better level of service.

Oh I agree 100%. I'm currently living with my parents in a Housing Association Property and it has been wonderful.

Council housing was fucking terrible. Most of childhood was spent sitting in the local Council with my mum crying and asking why we were being made homeless (they made us homeless twice for stupid stupid reasons. We were paying our rent because we had to go without heating, food and for a while electricity to fucking pay it), why they are saying we never paid our rent when my mum has receipts for it, or why they are taking us to court (which we won because the council were wrong). Their answer to most of that was "their computer system is broken" or that our rent payment receipts and other documents were fraudulent.

Moving to a housing association was the best thing we've ever done. Lived here for about 7 years with no problems. Their computer system is never broken and if they make a mistake, they don't sit there and tell us our documents are fraudulent, they just admit their mistake and correct it.
