I've recently started watching alot of foreign/sub-titled movies and have really enjoyed them. Feel free to share some of your favourite sub titled movies. Any recommendations for me would be much appreciated?

Over the past few weeks I have watched:

City of God
A Prophet
Troll Hunter
Elite Squad 1 & 2
The Host
Battle Royale 1 & 2

I thought this film was English anyway? :O didn't realise it was sub-titled?

It's subtitled because the whole movie is in the appropriate language for the time and place, I can't remember what it was but I think it was Aramaic, but it's not a 'foreign film' regardless.

Thanks for clearing that up :) I'll still add it to my list of films to watch!

I love City of God and Battle Royale.

I also really like [Rec] 1 & 2
Pan's Labyrinth
Audition

There are other Japanese films I've seen and liked but can't remember off the top of my head.

One of the best comedies ever - Les Visiteurs. Just the first one. The other is a bit crap.

Teary eyed "life has it in for us but it's still beautiful" - Les amants du Pont-Neuf.

The original Japanese Ringu.

Oldboy - without a doubt a disturbing but excellent film.

There's a few for starters.

You should really just find some directors and then run through some of their movies. Start with some of the legends, like:

Ingmar Bergman - The Seventh Seal, Persona, Wild Strawberries, Through A Glass Darkly, Cries and Whispers (and more)
Andrei Tarkovsky - Stalker, Solaris, Ivan's Childhood, The Steamroller and the Violin
Werner Herzog - Even Dwarfs Started Small, Stroszek, Fitzcarraldo (in which they LITERALLY drag a boat over a mountain)
Jean-Luc Godard - Breathless, Contempt, Pierrot le Fou, Alphaville

I gave you some variety there. Bergman is known more for minimalistic movies, no crazy anything, just solid storytelling and whatnot. Except for Persona which is as daring as he ever got.
Tarkovsky is known for long shots, it isn't abnormal for a single shot to be a couple minutes.
Herzog is more weird, especially Even Dwarfs Started Small but there is no shortage of weird in his library.
Godard is really stylish. Sometimes it's style over substance but he can be fun.

Or more recent ones:

Bela Tarr - Satantango (if you can handle a like 7 or 8 hour movie), Werckmeister Harmonies, Damnation
Apichatpong Weerasethakul - Tropical Malady, Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives, Syndromes and a Century, Mysterious Object at Noon

Tarr is a lot like Tarkovsky.
Weerasethakul is a Thai director and the reason I mention this is because I find Thailand actually has really great modern cinema. Anyway, Weerasethakul is one of my faves, and he's kind of weird himself but some of his movies are as beautiful as they are original.

For the record, my all-time fave foreign movies are: Persona, Werckmeister Harmonies, Pixote, Even Dwarfs Started Small, In A Year of 13 Moons, Parasite Eve, Last Life in the Universe, Stalker, El Topo, Tropical Malady and Three Colours: Blue.
