I accidentally dropped my sony viao laptop and i got a blue screen saying that one of my drivers is messed up or something. I tried to start it up in safe mode and on the main screen i got a window that said "windows is trying to fix the problem, it might take more than an hour to complete and your computer might restart a couple of times through the repair process" so after like an hour my computer restarted and it said "windows is loading files" then it took me to the welcome screen which was all black except for the mouse pointer. I tried restarting the computer in safe mode, regular mode, everything and it still doesn't work, i just get a black screen with the mouse pointer. How can I fix it? I'm going crazy here!!:(

Can you CTRL+ALT+DEL and get into task manager? If you can in the task manager, select File/New Task. Type Explorer.exe in the box and click OK. Does this load the desktop? I had this problem a while back.

if you were to hit this on your keyboard what pops up?

Ctrl+Alt+Del

Does something come that looks like this

Lock this computer
Switch users
Logoff
Change a passowrd
Open task Manager

If you can get to the task manager see if your windows explorer is working

to do this -click on File/New Task (run...)

in the box type "Explorer" then hit Enter (minus the " ")

and see if this helps

i had an issue like yours and thats what I had to do

I pressed EVERYTHING! CTRL+ALT+DEL, Shift 5 times and it still doesn't work..=[ I think I'm going to have to reinstall Vista on it. I hope it works..

Well, I'm not even going to tell you to try to troubleshoot drivers and such. Issue here doesn't seem to be the driver in my opinion. You already stated that you had dropped it. (How dare you, it's a Sony VAIO, it's like Gold :D ). I would rather say that your hard drive may have gotten bad sectors and some of your system files may have gotten corrupted. I would recommend installing a new hard drive asap, and clean installing windows and just transferring data from your old drive to the new. (files only, not the whole os, since os is corrupted now)

i formatted i t and then reinstalled vista on it

As someone else recommended, I would do a chkdsk on it.

Make sure you do the full scan check with repair to check for bad sectors not just incorrect fat data.

2 options.

1- open terminal window and type [ chkdsk c: /r ]
without the brackets ofcourse

2- right click on C: then click on "Properties", click on "Tools" tab. in that tab, Click the button "Check Now" and make sure "Scan and attemp for recovery..." is checked.
