They say that will power alone is not enough when you're trying to lose weight.

They're right.

However, sometimes the experts make out that willpower is unimportant, or at least that's the impression I get. But the fact is that if you had no willpower at all, you'd never stick to your diet. So willpower still matters.

I've never been clinically addicted to anything such as drugs or alcohol. But it's plenty hard to stay away from goodies. Hence, I can only imagine how difficult it must be to stay away from anything truly addictive. To do so is probably twenty-times harder than staying away from sweets.

Yikes!

Willpower definitely plays a role in everything!

As a smoker, I have a chemical, habitual, psychological addiction to smoking ... but the biggest reason I haven't quit is lack of will power.

Your willpower can become stronger if you become afraid of potential consequences, consequences that could affect you soon. Fearing consequences that could harm you down the road long-term won't necessarily make you quite as fearful.

It's better to be addicted to losing weight in a healthy manner that's such a powerful addiction that it overwhelms your addiction to eat goodies.

Then, once you've lost the weight, it's best to be addicted to maintaining the weight.
